Catching up... in Just in Case

Catching up on sleep and on y’all. The end of the week was pretty rough. We had a 4H field trip Thursday. I’m not a sponsor any more, but due to the number of kids going, I went as a chaperone. It was a long, tiring day. 8:30 to 1:30, non stop between stations and very little resting/sitting. I would have gone to bed and rested, except for the phone call that my cousin was calling the ambulance for my aunt. She was having chest pain. My mom had been over an spent the day with my cousin who still isn’t driving. She had just gotten home when she got the call. It’s about 40 minutes from her house to my aunt’s. She and my dad needed to eat (she hadn’t eaten all day, and he’s diabetic, so no skipping of meals). She asked if I would go over and see if I could help. So, I hopped in the car and ran over, it’s only about 10 minutes for me. I kid you not, my aunt had curlers in her hair and had just showered. My cousin is an intelligent woman who has owned her own business for years and has a Masters in Petroleum engineering. I looked at her in disbelief. She shrugged and said, “Mama wanted to be ready for them.” I made Aunt D sit down and took the curlers out while my cousin called 911. I refused to let her put on stockings and shoes and found slippers instead. Then I had to stop her from putting on makeup. I love love love my aunt. But Lord love a furry duck - I thought my head would explode. Then my mom called on my cell to see if we were at the hospital yet and I had to tell her that we had just called. She was upset, but I wouldn’t let her talk to my aunt. I didn’t figure she needed the stress. The ambulance actually got there pretty quickly. (They live out in the country, it can sometimes take an hour or more if there’s not an ambulance available.) Then came the long wait. I couldn’t go back in the room at first, because the hospital was in lock-down, then we were all in the little room waiting. A little after midnight my cousin was hurting too badly and I had to bring her home. I didn’t want to leave my parents up there, so I went back up and lost the fight with my mom. I had school Friday and she could go home and sleep all day. I still didn’t sleep. I kept waiting for word from them. At first I got the call that they were sending her home an hour or so after I left, then Mama texted and said her blood pressure kept going up and they couldn’t control it, so they were admitting her. (When I first went back it was 296/118. That’s scary high.) They finally got it under control and said she had no heart damage, that the blood pressure caused the pain, but they have no idea what caused the blood pressure spikes. They released her at 11:30 Friday night. I was not very nice to the hospital staff over that. (They had told them around 3:30 that the bp was under control and she would be released. The doctor was off that evening, though, and she had to wait for him to come in and sign off on her going home. I wasn’t very impressed or respectful about that. I did let nurse know that I knew it was the doctor, not her. So, a late night after a night of no sleep had me exhausted.
She’s doing ok, but the doctor told my cousin that this wasn’t uncommon and would probably happen again. This is the same cardiologist who said she had a-fib and then the next time said she was fine. She’s seeing another cardiologist, but he’s in a city that’s almost 2 hours away, so she had no choice where to go during the emergency.
I slept embarrassingly late this morning, so I probably won’t sleep tonight. lol That’s how it usually works for me.

An hour for an ambulance?! Man I'd have just put her in the car and drove her to the hospital myself! What does a person do if there is a really serious injury?! Wow. I'm all for rural living, but dang! Glad she seems to be on the mend though!

They did that to my aunt , sent her to a hospital that specializes in innovative stroke treatment . Said she was not having a stroke. Discharged her and the next morning she was paralyzed on one side. Never trust what they do if your gut feels wrong :-(

She goes back to the other specialist this week, so we'll see what he has to say.

I know. They were really concerned with her having a stroke, but it went down fairly quickly with the nitro.
lol It's my go to phrase at school. The kids say it. I always get 1 or 2 mom's who tell me they say it at home. lol
