I start my final rotation block of vet school tomorrow. Two more weeks and I’m done. Unreal.
Necropsy was a completely different type of awful. Though it didn’t carry the same type of stress it might have been one of my last favorite rotations. I wrote a couple haikus about it and I feel they sum much of the rotation up quite nicely.
I really don’t think
You should cut open skulls with
Hand saws. Necropsy.
A horse necropsy.
Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope
Nope nope nope.....nope nope!
Poor dog, five days dead,
Not refrigerated. Oh,
The smell! Putrefied.
Dead cat came in. We
cut, examined. She was sent
Away in pieces.
Despite it being sad, unpleasant, and smelly, it was pretty interesting and satisfying to see macroscopic causes of death and disease in these animals. Good anatomy review, too. Still, it was frequently quite sad. And our end product didn’t really look like the animals they once were anymore.
Ophthalmology externship tomorrow. Haven’t really studied for it. Might skim some notes. Might not. Got me a case of senioritis, I think. No worries, will still be professional.
Aaron’s grandfather passed away. He lived a good, long life (97 when he passed!) and was much loved, but it was and still is painful. Aaron spent a lot of time with him in his later years so I think he’s taken it harder than the rest of his family in his generation. He seems like he’s doing OK, though.
