Tomorrow I begin what should be my last semester of classroom learning. Ever. Or, at least, for the foreseeable future. It's both exhilarating and terrifying. I am so ready to stop being a student but once I'm done with that I'm supposed to be a doctor. Eek!
This winter break has been exactly what I've needed. Aaron and I have spent quite a bit of time just hanging at home, watching TV. It's been mindless and lazy but quite relaxing.
Last Saturday I met up with a bunch of high school friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in years. It was was surprisingly fun and less awkward than anticipated. It's astounding how little people have changed.
Mogget is keeping me company as I'm writing this. He usually doesn't so he's providing an amusing distraction. He's having a lot of fun playing with the champagne corks from New Year's.
Speaking of New Year's, I have some resolutions of sorts, things I hope I can do in 2014. In no order of importance, the include:
1. Try to be as confident as I can during rotations. Learn as much as I can. Fight with my inclination to hide and be quiet. It's my time to learn how to be a vet and I need to try my best to be outspoken, sharp, sure of myself, comfortable accepting constructive criticism, lacking fear of asking stupid questions, and bold enough to approach all of the doctors who will be mentoring me. Have fun despite the stress.
2. Related to above, construct a kick ass cheat book for rotations.
3. Eat more waffles and french toast. They are delicious.
4. Pass my national boards. Study for it in an organized way. Avoid (too much) procrastination.
5. Read at least one fun book. If more are possible, awesome.
6. Maintain some amount of socialization during rotations instead of reverting into a hermit. If I need to stay home and avoid people, that's fine, but I also need to spend time with friends, especially Genevieve, on occasion.
7. Thank and appreciate Aaron for everything he does to support me and try to be a good partner despite the weirdness this year will bring. Try to be more thoughtful and cognizant of his wants and needs. Communicate better, snuggle more.
8. Learn how to drive? (hahaha)
9. Apply for outside world, scary adult jobs.
10. Be more patient when people are driving me crazy. Especially applicable to some classmates I will have no choice but to work with.
11. Eat lots of delicious food.
That's all I've got for now. Maybe I'll add more later. I need to go eat some waffles now :)
