So, I’ve just finished a self help book. Entitled How Proust Can Change Your Life by Alain de Botton. 216 pages, including acknowledgement. Read from 4th March to today, the 8th.

So, what did I think? I’ve never attempted to read Proust, and for some reason I’ve never really been interested in doing so. It’s kind of like Jane Austen’s work - I know there’s a (justified) reason why they’re classics, but I’ve never been motivated to go out and try reading either’s work. I loved the titbits about Proust’s life that were raised in this book. There seems to be something lacking with this book - maybe a bit of warmth that self help books tend to have? Or maybe my own lack of motivation towards Proust....

My favourite bookshop (part of a small chain that deals with new and second hand books) has a promotion on called “Blind Date With A Book”. Books that are part of this promotion are wrapped in brown paper, with key points/themes written on the front. The price tag is attached via string. The only reason I read this book was that it was part of the promotion.
