So - I have an idea about a series of stories based on the collective world of Disney characters. (This is what happens when I spent five weeks playing "Disney Infinity", but you could probably have guessed that by the name).
The stories themselves are fairly well sorted out in my head - they start with the murder of Edmund Pevensie and end with the final battle of a huge civil war, played out in the lands around Cinderella's Castle.
However I am having serious issues with the back story to prop up all of this. Which I know, doesn't sound so important, but the basis of the back story will make a difference as to the specifics of how the stories are written.
For example :-
The first idea was that they are an extension of Jasper Fforde's "Bookworld" world - an extra department of Jurisfiction that deals with the movie world. The main characters (Rapunzel, Jack Sparrow, Violet Parr and Buzz Lightyear atm) would all be members of this group, ensuring that the rest of the characters follow the rules, and can punish them if rules are broken.
The downside of this is, if I am going to base it on Jasper FForde's world, I would have to include the other side of it as well - Rapunzel would have to vanish to appear in the movie every time someone watched it.
The second idea was just to create a world where all of these people lived, with the stories coming at various points in the timeline. However this is somewhat "Once Upon A Time"-ish, and it would be hard to separate out the stories (especially with rumours that OUAT is going to bring Rapunzel in to the mix after the Christmas holidays).
The third idea was to create a specific Disney world ("The Magic Kingdom" or "The Kingdom of Magic" or "The Enchanted Kingdom" - something like that) where the characters can live when they are not required for the specific movie. So that Rapunzel - after her filming is done - can kick back and relax at "The Hub" (either based on The Hall of Heroes from "Infinity" or something like that) until she's next required for a film. But once the film is done, she doesn't have to appear each time.
This is my best idea atm, although I might add the "police force" aspect - with a few of the characters being in charge to prevent overly rowdiness or attempts to break into other's films/houses etc.
So you can see - depending on the back story used, the actual stories will vary a little.
I think I will give this more thought - I'm probably not going to be doing much writing over Christmas anyway - and come back to it in the New Year.
