Here is my day:
Found out that I did not get the job here after 2 interviews and the online test. She was very nice and fed out the standard line of being a tough choice, but said the successful candidate already had experience in that particular field. I wasn’t too heartbroken - I had a feeling the salary was going to be too low, anyway, and I really don’t want to leave where I am if I can just bear the boss. There’s still a lot I want to do there so I’ll hang on for now.
One of our employees who has been off for the last few weeks came in today. She was very worried - single mother of several children, and they had found a mass on her kidney. It’s extremely swollen and of course her thoughts turned immediately to cancer. She’s been seeing specialists and having lots of tests done. It turns out she actually fell down a flight of stairs several months ago and had a bone chip (that broke loose during her fall) embedded in her kidney. That’s just amazing to me. So they didn’t catch it on x-rays, etc. all this time and now they finally see it when her kidney goes berserk trying to get rid of it. The bad news is that they can’t get her in for surgery until July so she’s off work until then. She’s not supposed to move very much and they’re trying to reduce the swelling so they can put a stent in. Amazing, I tell you.
