Le sigh

By the time Christmas lunch time arrives tally will have received the majority of items on her list (not a long one) except the robot dog (obscenely expensive) or the baby doll (i really don't think she'd use it, she loves real babies and totally adores Libby but I just don't think she'd do the toy) purely because of having a birthday this week.

Lila, on the other hand, is losing out big style. The flutterby fairy she wants has such universally appalling reviews that I am NOT forking out £30 odd for it. The boogie board jot that she wants is so one dimensional that I think it would also be lots of money down the drain. She also isn't getting an £80 robot doggy and my brother its getting her the baby doll she wants.

Of course what she really wants its a tablet but we said not until she was seven.

However - I'm starting to cave. I started by looking (yet again) at leap pads. Yet again? Well, the main leap pad has one major thing against it - it's for right handers. Both my girls are lefties but the leappad stylus is attached on the right and the string its too short to stretch across to the left hand side effectively. I know. I've tried it.

I looked at the leapstergs which is touch screen with better reviews and no lefty issues, added to which it's in sale at Argos. But of course there is the issue of the leappad app cost. I popped over to their store. Hmmm.... £5, £7.50... £20!! Per app! Holy crap no!! Talaia's tablet is android based, signed on through my Google account and she swaps and changes her apps regularly. I'm not paying those prices for each new app!

On doing research I discovered a kid friendly android tablet with a crayon stylus and parental controls... It's £60 so I'll talk to Rich about it in the morning but I do think it's the only thing that will make Christmas morning sparkle when she doesn't get the majority of things on her list.

Any thoughts? X

Having T's bday so close to Xmas must make it doubly hard to feel like you've got something special for L too. I think the tablet is a GREAT idea! You know she'd get loads of use out of it, if I could, I'd get tablets for both S and E. :)

I don't envy you, that's for sure!! Have you thought of doing something like Operation Christmas Child with the girls, where you buy and fill a shoebox for a child (you can choose the age and gender)... it would be a wonderful tradition and they could get excited about giving to someone more needy. It's a Christian organization so you may not be interested but maybe there's something similar. I know you're giving-minded so you probably do something like this already with them.

Wow, both your girls are lefties! Are you and/or Rich? Is it genetic?

Interestingly, the only lefty we know of in either family is my dad's wife! Talaia was left from very young, I knew pretty much from when she was able to use her hands whereas Lila was less obvious until I stayed teaching her to read. X

I've done research for the Christmas child organisation. It's too late to fill a box ourselves but we can do it online so I think we''ll look at that later. Thank you x

I'm astounded that in this day and age, lefties are still ignored. I'm a righty, but come on, technoworld, get with the program!

Sorry, that wasn't an idea. It was a gripe. I like the idea of the Android tablet with stylus. You know, as long as there is no righty-bias.
