NAVLE day. It sucked. Feels like I failed it, but a lot of people feel like that so....dunno. I kind of feel more anxious now than I did before the exam. But at least I don’t have to think about it any more and I’m officially on my vacation block so yay for a break!
Aside from NAVLE, the rest of today was wonderful. We woke up early to the sun rising over Lake Superior and it was so beautiful! After NAVLE, Aaron brought me to a nice little coffee shop so I could have a snack (quiche and chai). We pondered going to the zoo here but it isn’t open today or tomorrow. Instead, because I needed an animal fix, we found a local animal shelter and sat in a cat room for like an hour playing with kittens. It was the best! They were wonderful kittens. Both cuddly and playful, very good with their claws. There were 4 that were very interactive and another 4 being cute and antisocial in a cozy kitty house. It really helped me feel better. On our way out, I left a donation to thank them for time well spent.
It was cold and Aaron needed a new hat and gloves, so we wandered the outdoorsy store in the basement of out hotel (the building has a quaint mini mall along with 3 restaurants and a brewpub, plus the hotel. It’s a really neat place) and found him a really nice pair of gloves and cozy hat. I ended up with a cozy pair of mittens and a purse that has jackalopes (!!) on it. Yay for retail therapy! At least my purchases were mostly practical :P
Then, we went to Bentleyville, which I enjoyed far more than anticipated. This is how it’s described on their website: “Billed as America’s Largest Free Walk Through Lighting Display, Bentleyville invites guests to stroll under the glow of over 4 million lights in a 20-acre park situated on the shores of Lake Superior, while enjoying complimentary hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn and roasted marshmallows!” It was surprisingly beautiful and, despite not being a Christmas person, especially so early in the season, I really liked it.
To finish up the evening, Aaron and I headed to the brewpub in the basement of our hotel and enjoyed a flight of 7 beers, all of which were quite good (aside from the IPA, but that’s more because we’re not IPA people), plus some nachos and beer-battered french fries. Om nom nom. Now it’s 8:30 and Aaron is dozing next to me in our absurdly comfy hotel bed. It might be bed time because we’re such party-ers.
