I just made some sort of bastardized Cream of Potato soup.. with kielbasa and veggies and cheese.
If you don’t care about cooking, you probably won’t care about this description, but I’m pretty impressed with myself, so too bad :P
I found two recipes that I liked, but neither one of them was exactly what I was looking for. So I sort of combined the two. One called for instant mashed potato flakes as a thickener, which I didn’t have. So I made a roux with bacon grease and flour, simmered it down, then poured in chicken broth. Then I brought that to a boil and peeled and sliced taters and carrots. I tossed that all into the boiling broth, and threw in some random peas and corn for colour. Onion powder, garlic salt, and parsley.
In another pan, I sliced and quartered some kielbasa and browned it. My concoction had been boiling for about a half hour by the time I was done, and the potatoes were nice and soft. I strained all the kielbasa and tossed it in. The broth seemed thinner than I wanted it, so I mixed some more flour with the kielbasa drippings and some butter, then poured the milk straight into my roux until it became a thick, liquid glue type consistency. Then I poured that whole mix into the soup and stirred it up and boiled it together for a bit. When it seemed done, I grated a bunch of cheese into it and over the top.
AMAZING. Did I say, AMAZING? Even Milo liked it. He said it looked disgusting and it must taste like dead turkeys, but then he had a bite and said “EWW..wait… MMM! I LOVE IT! This is AMAZING!” and ate a bunch of it.
Kasin had one bite and said “Hmm, not half bad.. but I’m still not eating it.”
Brat.
Oh well, more for me :)
