Last night was the local ‘Meet the Candidates’ event, and I think I held my own against the incumbents running for re-election. Colorado has the mail-in ballots, and I’ve been told by a very reliable source that many in this area complete their ballots early.
Following the meeting, we in the room were asked if we could give a ride to Alamosa to a gentleman who needed a steering box for his 2007 F-150 pickup. I and several others offered, I said I could definitely go, so off we went.
‘Rocky’ ( the guy’s name) was retired from carpet sales in the Dallas area where he said a ‘slow’ day would be 250-300 installations(!).
To make a long, but neat, story shorter, Rocky and his son got the truck fixed in about four hours and they headed to Creede to do some elk hunting.
In addition to the friendship, one of the most memorable moments was replacing the power steering fluid.
Per the instructions, the ignition system fuse had to be pulled to prevent the truck from starting and burning out the pump bearings.
The conversation between father and son:
Son: “We gotta pull the ignition fuse so the engine won’t start.”
Dad: (pauses, thinks for a moment…) “It’s a $%@!ing diesel! It ain’t got no ignition!”
We all got a laugh out of it, and what was great was - making lemonade out of the lemons life had handed us.
Good times!
