been spending alot of time with my nieces as they had dance rehearsal for their big recital and them the recital that occured yesterday.
i was there for for who knows 7 hours yesterday.
one concert was at 3 pm and the other at 7 pm.
summer was in 2
valentina was in 1
summer was dancing to hip hop “somebody” by natalie la rose and jeremih
valentina danced to jazz “a little party” - by fergie
i must say of all of the 4 years they have been dancing i have been the most impressed with their performance along with the entire dance school. i believe this years show WAS their best i have seen in 4 years. it was utterly fantastic. every performance. i was in awe of the years worth of work that they prepared for as they delivered! i mean they REALLY delivered.
could not be any prouder.
this years theme was the roaring twenties and the set background was this.

so of course with the curtain coming up i already knew i would love the dances just from the set.
opening number was beyond amazing. its was like we were at gatsby. i loved loved the great gatsby with redford and dicaprio. loved them both as gatsby. love the roaring twenties. love so much about the period except the depression.
so as we sat it was just like a scene from gatsbys house in the backyard with performers and partiers having a GRAND ole time. it was THE BEST! while some of the performances were not twenties necessarily like hip hop- it was still grand. i just clapped and sat in awe watching my nieces but also everyone else. i was truly inspired by this event. i wished i had danced that opening number 25 years ago. i would have LOVED it. i will have to share that dance segment. just wow wow wow.
the different styles of dance were so theatrical from lyric to tap to hip hop to jazz. all of it was just amazing to see these young men and women.
as you can see i love dance.
:)
there was only one issue
- alot of parents were quite rude. they kept getting up to leave the auditorium after every single performance at the 3 pm show. i can understand attending to the little kids (of course) but this was just more on an extreme level where they (dance company) had to respectfully ask people more than several times to not leave or get up. its only a minute between dances and honestly we have ALL been waiting for 1 year to see them perform. sit down for an hour and a half. it was just ridiculous and i said something. others also said something. it was just disrespectful to whoever was sitting down and watching. it was not just a few people. like every performance 20 -25 people got up and coming in and out of the auditorium. for real if some of you were sitting at this event you would have been shocked. clearly none of these people have been to a theater performance because you would have been left outside until the act is over. it was just bad!! 7 pm show was better and people sat down. all of the children except for the wee little ones are in another huge room with supervision/security and plenty of televisions so they can see the show. so they wont miss it. also i bought the dvd so they can watch it on the big screen at home.
thanks to my dad for helping me out and of course my mom also.
their mom never showed up to their recital.
blows my mind and its sad. but we were there- my family and i guess at this point its all that matters.
i am however happy for a few months of a break.
maybe i can focus a little bit on me ? :)
