Family in Daily Musings

I’m the youngest of five and the only girl so I’ve been treated differently by them most of my life. My oldest brother is 22 years older and my youngest brother was 10 years older (he passed away in 2004). The oldest three are from my mom’s previous marriage so growing up it was mainly me and my youngest brother. Growing up we fought like cats and dogs, but once we got older we were really close.

My mom is battling stage IV cancer that has metastasized; therefore, I am her primary caretaker. My brothers do absolutely nothing except call on occasion. Two call about once a week and the one that lives the closest (8 miles away) rarely calls or visits.

My middle brother, his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson were visiting from the city today. My brother’s grandma’s 100th birthday was today (my mom doesn’t get along with her). Mom was hoping that he would stop by for a visit, but it didn’t happen. She’s upset and has been laying around all afternoon. I mean how hard is it to drive 5 miles and see your mother?

I should be used to it since my brothers are rarely there when needed.
