Why we can't have anything nice. in Beauty in the Mundane

I’m usually a pretty positive person. I like to see the world with the glass half full. I don’t understand the purpose of living to be unhappy…so I choose to not be unhappy often.

But right now, I’m pretty pissed.

I have been trying to organize “events” with my group of friends. Instead of going out on a Saturday night to get drunk in some irrelevant nightclub, I have been looking more toward Wine Tasting Tours and Fairs and Farmer’s Markets and Apple Picking and all sorts of fun autumn-esque shit to do.

Tomorrow, I have a party bus picking up 15 people from the restaurant. It’ll take us 2 hours to the North Fork of Long Island where we can taste homemade wine of three different vineyards. The forecast is partly sunny and 78. It’ll be gorgeous. I got a good deal of ~130 dollars per person. Everyone confirmed with me TWICE that they were free, available and OK with the price. I ordered everyone lunch.

So explain to me why the night before – FIVE people have cancelled?

I have a contract. I can’t cancel 5 people. Instead, we’ll have to pay. And I am supremely pissed. One person is going to reimburse me regardless. I have learned the hard way that I’m no longer inviting quasi-close friends. People that my husband works with – they are irresponsible, evidently.

I am going to have a wonderful time. So fuck them.

Except now it’s gonna cost me money to cover these dickheads.

Grr.
