Having come to terms long ago with the idea that movies meant to be exciting and adventurous are rarely also above factual reproach or cut corners for a good scene, I fully enjoyed this one. As with all movies like this: Star Wars, Batman, X-Men, Avengers, all of them... don't think too much. (Batman has the most glaring instances because Nolan based his trilogy in a quasi-reality of sorts that the other movies I listed don't pretend to occupy). Star Trek boldly goes where Star Trek already went before, but it does go boldly, so you can applaude it for that. Instead of playing a remake straight, it opts for homage, and thus gives a whip of inspiration to itself that is probably a little undeserved. But it's still a fun movie.
