Elf On The Shelf and Where Is Christmas? in It's My Life

In lieu of my child not being in the Christmas spirit I went out and purchased a beyond ridiculously priced Elf On The Shelf. He was instantly enthralled and named him Vinny, so slowly Dante has been getting into the spirit of things. I guess it’s a little hard to do here when the weather has been tempermental, we get snow and then it rains for three days straight leaving nothing more than puddles and mud. We haven’t been able to build a snowman, go sledding or really do anything snow related, the only thing we have done was walk to the tree of hope (all of 2 blocks away) and get into a snowball fight along the way.

At the school things have been going well as I’ve taken a head first dive into the season with busying kids with Christmas activities and crafts, to my bewilderment playing Christmas trivia they knew nothing. In a fit of wild confusion I actually made them watch a Disney Christmas Carol with Mickey Mouse. They had never heard of the Christmas Carol yet alone the whole Christmas story. They got questions from The Grinch right, they were all about Frozen (which I told them clearly IS NOT about Christmas.) I couldn’t believe that a grade five student told me the three wise men gave baby jesus nutcrackers, an advent calendar, and a Christmas star as gifts.

Maybe I’m just old but damn kids are getting ignorant to traditions.
