Been Almost A Month... in 2015

Hours at Sephora are still super up and down. Sigh. I’ve been able to catch an extra shift here and there, but generally I only get scheduled for about 12 hours. Plus there is a new girl in skincare and she has been getting 18 hours a week consistently, and she’s one of those women that almost looks young but then when you go up to her, you’re like “Shit ! From far away you look 20 but up close you’re more than double !” And not in a good way. I shouldn’t speak badly of people, but she also isn’t very friendly with us and practically accused me of misplacing a tester she had made. I wasn’t even back in skincare that day, though I did see the tester and she’s the one who left it where it wasn’t supposed to be, and it wasn’t my problem. I humored her and said it possibly grew legs.

Yesterday Cori and I went to the reception for my friend Melanie’s wedding. They married on Black Friday and as far as I know, it was only parents, grandparents, and siblings. The reception was for everyone else. It looked like a nice but very informal wedding. Melanie is still stationed at Langley AFB for another year, and for now her husband Seth is still in Texas until December, but possibly June. Hopefully by the time a year goes by, they will be able to be together (they are both military).

Catie has a boyfriend that she has been dating for about 10 months. I feel bad I haven’t really hung out with her since I got to Cinci (after all, she housed all my junk until I found a place, and I lived with her for a month and a half !). He was there but I didn’t even get a good opportunity to say hi to him and he didn’t say hi to me. And I thought Cori was shy ! However Catie didn’t really introduce us, so… yeah.

And Nan (Catie and Mel’s mom) hugged Cori ! It was adorable. So after the reception we actually went to Amanda’s mom’s house because it was Amanda’s sister’s birthday (July 4th) and her mom lives right behind the park where they shoot fireworks off in town. Last time I saw fireworks there was either 2004 or 2005, and let’s just say the treeline has grown a bit since then, hehe. But about 80% of the fireworks were completely visible, and it was a grand show. I haven’t seen Amanda’s mom in ages (okay, well, maybe August of 2012), and I told her I felt bad she didn’t see me a year and a half ago when I was at my lowest weight in years, and she got this really concerned look on her face and said, “Awww, Rach, you’re beautiful, don’t even say that !” And I almost cried.

Scott and Stephen (two of Amanda’s friends) brought glow sticks and Cori made me a headdress and everyone loved it, so I was sitting on his lap after the fireworks and Scott reiterated how much I looked like an empress of Saturn and I turned around to Cori and in a cute voice said, “It’s a hit, Cori !” and everyone burst into laughter. It was a good time.

We got back to Cinci a little past 1 in the morning and went to bed around 3. We ended up being lazy and not waking up until past noon and he went grocery shopping while I cleaned up the apartment, especially the bathroom. After that we, ahem, had some fun… and then we took a walk ! The weather was wonderful this weekend, I wish all of July and August could be like this. I’ve enjoyed not having to run the A/C. Oh, and the drawers in the dresser that Catie gave us (she gave us other furniture too, only the dresser has issues), basically the bottoms of each drawer were cut improperly and warped and there weren’t any supports on it, so the bottoms kept falling out (IKEA; the dresser had a couple other issues too) so we went on Friday and bought a $100 chest of drawers also from IKEA that was way more sturdy (we thought, by looking at the display)–plus I nailed in the bottom boards for extra staying power, but it also had bigger side holders and a metal bar that attaches in the middle to provide center support.

Only thing is that now the AC doesn’t fit on it, so we moved it down to the floor and now we have no idea what to do about draining the water. That thing fills a bucket in one night, sometimes. And that bucket is a huge Lowe’s bucket. Basically the drain is at the bottom of the unit and we had the AC up on the drawers so that the hose could empty down into the bucket, but with the unit on the floor, we now have to pull the hose up and into the bucket, so it’s going against gravity. I just don’t want to have it on one night and find a puddle of water on the floor.

And the crappy thing is, there’s literally nowhere else to put it. We only have 3 outlets in the bedroom and only one is by the window (where we need to vent it), so we can’t really put it anywhere else. And googling it didn’t help… so what do people do ? It’s humid as hell here, the window is a good 4 feet up from the floor and we can’t snake the hose out without losing the seal we put foam into, but we need that bucket to collect water because even a red mop bucket from Target overflowed with just one night’s water collection.

I don’t dislike our apartment in the least… but man, I wish the windows weren’t 4 feet wide so we could put in a damn window unit.
