i was called for another interview and went this morning. the school is about an hour north, just outside of the city. the trek up there from my house was not fun. i cant imagine going there in the winter. its further than my current school. however, the job would be great!
grades 3-5 general music/choir and 4-5 elective beginner orchestra with pullout lessons and orchestra during recess once a week. no after school. no before school. the principal and two music teachers (one was the HS band director and the other was the ES band director…there is also a k-2 general music teacher and a 6-8 orchestra teacher) held the interview. i was in there for about an hour. they had specific questions and interesting questions. i think i answered them well. two questions i needed some work on were about collaborating with the middle school strings teacher (im not part of a feeder program, so i struggled with that one a bit) and how to deal with overly involved parents (i get mostly the opposite where im teaching now). i think i answered the problem student question well and my goals for the program i answered well. i talked a lot about technology and my skype concert and my student teaching experience…i dunno. it just went well. i didnt feel uncomfortable and i didnt struggle with what i wanted to say. sometimes i talk before i have fully formed an answer in my head and then i get stuck and lost lol. but over all it went well. they said i seemed to have a lot of experience and qualifications for the job, so thats good. the principal should be calling me for a mock lesson next week if they think they want me for the job. i have a good feeling theyre going to call me.
im not going to write a pros and cons list now…getting too tired. but there are a lot of pros at this school. the main downfall is the commute. its a bitch from where we are living now. we would have to move, probably up to the Bronx, which neither of us really wants to do.
my principal emailed me back to call her and i got another weird phone number from her. i think she tried calling me around 7, but i was half asleep and didnt answer. gonna try to call again tomorrow afternoon. apparently, my ensemble director from ETM knows the woman im working for at the summer camp (his son takes lessons from her). i guess she saw him yesterday and told him i was going on this interview today (i had to come late to camp in order to go to the interview) and i guess he told her that the school is definitely hiring me. i told her thats news to me. no one has called me to confirm and its ok that im looking around anyway. im a little pissed he would say anything to her…but then again we arent the best of friends either. so anyway! i hope i get in touch with her tomorrow. no sure what to do otherwise.
alright…i gotta get to bed. last day of summer camp tomorrow!!
