Been a hell of a strange week.
As well as seeing patients on appointments, I had a couple of fairly big meetings. Wednesday was a meeting with colleagues at a “Networking Group” . This is a group of people working on different projects for our company. We find it really beneficial chatting to people who look at the same company from different angles. At the same time we impart our knowledge of differing subjects. For this meeting the main topic of event was “NMC Re-Validation”. Every 3 years nurses’ have to prove that we have actually worked so many hours of practice, done so many hours of Continual Professional Development (CPD, or courses in other words) as well as having third party evidence (i.e from patients or nurses we work with), to be able to stay on the Nurses Register. So discussions around that were helpful.
We also discuss Clinical Supervision which is where we discuss any problems we may have encountered during our working, with our peers. Again it’s always helpful to hear different takes on whatever we may have thought about the event. This is something that our company is really hot on and these meetings are really helpful.
When that was over I headed down to Reading to a hotel overnight. On Thursday I was at Head Office early for 2 more meetings. These were disciplinary meetings. Not for me I hasten to add. Story goes that at a recent Team meeting in a hotel (we have these every 3 months) 3 of my colleagues had a little bit to drink and were deemed to be a little bit noisy ater on in one of their rooms. Now this was one guy and 2 ladies. They are all good friends (as most of us are in this team) and were just having a laugh and joke and a bit of banter, not realising how noisy they were being. One of our colleagues from a different team (formerly of our team) phoned the reception and complained about the noise. The Hotel Night Manager came to the door and asked them to be quiet. Before they even got chance to reduce the noise levels the one that had made the complaint went into the room and started remonstrating with them. Now there is a bit of history between her and one of the girls in the room as she was accused of bullying by the girl. Needless to say the discussion became a little heated and anyway a formal complaint was made. We don’t know if it was from the ex-colleague or from the hotel. But anyway, they were called up before a Disciplinary investigation. As an Ex-Union Rep I volunteered to go with them to the meetings. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to one of the girls as it clashed with other appointments but I managed the other two.
Both meetings lasted approximately 50 minutes, and from what I could gather from reading the body language and the facial signs of the investigators, they all realised that if the ex-colleague hadn’t intervened then the event would not have escalated as much as it did.
There is no doubt that with them being so noisy that there was a charge to be answered, as the company we are contracted to were also in the hotel as well as other people, so that was a bit of a black mark, but with the evidence , and hopefully, my summing of the events in both meetings, it should only end up as a slap on the wrist for them. They should know within 5 working days.
Other news, Full time RVing still high on the agenda. Thoughts of down-sizing our present stock in this house are beginning in earnest. I’ve looked into earning money while on the road and I’m not worried about being able to do that. In fact I’m quite looking forward to it as it will be totally different. I aim to get more into photography and do some writing too. We are working things out so that we have about a year’s worth of money to fall back on if we should need it. So it remains to be seen exactly what Lee is going to do.
He has finally sold his Ford Mustang, but taken a hell of a hit, money-wise. He was intending to use this money to get himself a place and was keen to be able to look after himself. We’re hoping this still happens, because after 8 years Dawn and I REALLY need time on our own! Knowing Lee’s past history with “money-in-pocket” we’re worried that he’ll just fritter it away. I guess we’ll just wait and see.
OK folks, that’s enough for now.
Happy 4th of July to all you friends across the ‘Pond.
