Confederate flag should not be on government buildings, as when the flag was designed with the purpose of spreading the message of racism:

“As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race.” -The guy who designed the fucking flag (William T. Thompson)

If there’s a slippery slope, the government isn’t sliding easily or without a fight: the state governments are still arguing amongst themselves about what to do, but their role in the debate is entirely over public property. Their decision to tear down the flag on public property has no real power over asshole redneck guy’s flag on his private property.

However huge retailers are making a much more decisive blow against the confederate flag in the private sector: Walmart, Amazon, Sears, eBay to stop selling Confederate flag merchandise. And I feel pretty smug that some horrible stereotype redneck person is frustrated because he can’t buy a confederate flag sticker for their bumper from Walmart.

Here’s the move that made me feel like tearing down the flags could possibly go horribly wrong: Apple removes all American civil war games from app store because of the confederate flag. Because the confederate flag flying over a state capitol building is racism and should be taken down; But banning a war game over the flag is like banning Shindler’s List for displaying Nazi propaganda.

My point is…asshole redneck guy should be more afraid of companies like Walmart who clearly show less restraint in attacking symbols of racism, and in the case of Apple, apparently doing so without any sensitivity to context.
