A whole lot of nothing... and a little turkey talk in Another Open Diary refugee

It was 1.30 in the morning on Thursday night before either of us was able to get to sleep, and then we had a disturbed night, so it's REALLY thrown my sleep pattern off. Neither of us has been feeling well since the movie so we've done a whole lot of nothing this weekend. Lots of sleeping and very little else. Yesterday he took me to BJs to get meat and we were supposed to get the rest of the groceries today but we both felt too lousy to go anywhere. We'll do the grocery run first thing in the morning tomorrow (Monday). He's working after hours tomorrow and super early AM Tuesday so it's tomorrow morning or not at all. Luckily we had enough cat food that we could put it off till the morning - I served the monsters their last can for supper, and they don't get wet food for breakfast. They had a Thanksgiving lunch at church today but John didn't feel up to going, and I didn't really do anything today either except spend an hour sitting out by the pool reading and make us lunch.

I have to figure out what we're going to do about Thanksgiving. The $120 I spent at BJs included a month's worth of meat, but it did NOT include ham or turkey or anything for Thanksgiving really except the obligatory giant pumpkin pie (which is for eating during the week) BJs pies are huge and only six bucks so I insisted on one - I adore pumpkin pie and canned pumpkin is through the roof this year so I haven't bought any to make my own. Plus I HATE making pastry... Anyway, I don't know what we'll do on Thursday. I was going to do the whole shebang but I don't have the energy and we don't have the money... we could have the pork roast I bought yesterday but pork doesn't really seem like a 'holiday' food to me - we eat it fairly often. I do know that I plan on buying a Marie Callendar frozen pie (their coconut cream is to die for if you have time to thaw it out a day in advance) and a Bob Evans hash brown casserole because it's way nicer than their scalloped potatoes. I'm not a big ham fan but it might be more practical to buy one of those fat ham slices than to do a whole turkey breast for two people... I adore turkey but I'm feeling more than a bit overwhelmed at the thought of having to carry a big heavy bird up the stairs and man-handle it into the oven, and when I cooked a whole turkey a few years ago I found out that even though I love chicken legs I can't say the same about turkey dark meat, so I threw half of it away! I'm also feeling more than a bit poultried out because our freezer was so empty the last few weeks that we had chicken five nights last week. I love chicken but even I can have too much of a good thing! I know turkey's not really the same, but it feels like 'more bird'... I do love dressing/stuffing though... I wonder if anyone sells a premade one that doesn't have msg in it so I can just bung it into the oven? If I really decide not to cook, we could always get individual dinner from Boston Market... they're pretty expensive, but they're also very nice, especially their dressing and gravy. I threatened Boston Market last year and a friend invited us to dinner instead, giving us full permission to come, eat, and leave if we so wished. We've had an invite from another family this year, but to be honest I don't have nearly enough energy for their boisterous enthusiasm right now, and I don't think they'd be so understanding...

On the good news side of the equation, it's now three weeks since our third bedbug treatment and we haven't seen any of the hideous little blood sucking monsters! I'm starting to get a little nervous because the 'warranty' runs out in another week, and it feels as if it was all too easy... after the first treatment we saw a bunch immediately. After the second, there were just one or two stragglers. And since then, nada! In my nightmares, the bugs show up again in ten or twelve days and ruin the rest of our year because they wiped out our bank account already and we couldn't possibly pay an exterminator AGAIN! But hopefully that's just my paranoia kicking in and we'll be fine from here on out. I held my breath last week and called John's sister to see if they're going to be in Florida for Christmas, and yes they are so we're going to go up to Orlando for Christmas again, but that's conditional on our being bug-free... the last thing we'd want to do in the universe would be to take bed bugs up to our elderly relatives!
