The Good Ol' Fight in Life and musings of an old mom-to-be

After three weeks, I finally managed to get the crib finished today. I like playing carpenter and all–but it was a freakin nightmare. The parts all fit right except for these dumb little wooden pegs that, of course, were REALLY IMPORTANT… and they broke off right away. Turns out the home depot store didn’t have replacements (not that size, anyway), so I had to buy a metal bar and saw the pieces into the right shape. Okay, already hard enough. Then they wouldn’t fit into the little holes because the wooden ones were tapered and, as you probably know, there is NO TAPERING a metal bar. So I had to make the holes bigger (quite a challenge, when you don’t own a drill), then hammer the headboard and footboard down on top of the pegs. It’s hard to explain–but believe me–NOT easy. Especially since I was trying not to crack the white lacquer finish. The crib headboard didn’t turn out exactly the same as crib footboard, so when I screwed the banisters on, they didn’t fit right. OMG was I pissed!!! It took all my energy not to cuss and scream–and I refrained ONLY for the baby’s sake. Finally I got them all to fit right except for one, which is still kinda wobbly. And then… the mattress wasn’t the right size!!! OMG!!!!! Even though it was the one they sold for this particular crib. Argh!!! Now I hafta wait for the store to come pick it up and refund me, cos they don’t have any of the right size. Why on earth would you sell a mattress WITH a crib when it’s too narrow for it???

Needless to say, I was exhausted after all this and could not make myself useful for the rest of the day. I did NOT go to church, did NOT do dishes or laundry, did NOT fix the closet (big mess–and probably another rant fest I’ll save for another day)…

And tomorrow’s Monday, and we have Assembly again… WILL IT NEVER END???

LOL. I’m still happy though, with baby and cat. Just wish I had more quality time to spend with them instead of having to rush off all over the place all the time.
