I met Andy at the convenience store where he worked. I spent a lot of time at convenience stores. I liked Andy. He was the manager. I found out his wife and newborn were killed by an impaired driver. Andy said he never drinks and drives. Andy bailed me out of jail once. I helped him move. He has a new girlfriend and they are moving in together.
I didn't see him for a couple years after that. It was winter and cold. I was working at a newspaper as a circulation manager and was driving around at 3 in the morning when I spotted Andy walking along the street without a coat. He had been drinking and he left his car down town and there were no buses and he lost his wallet in the bar so he was walking home. I could feel the pain in his voice as I am sure he was remembering his wife and baby. He was far from home so I drove him. I told him to call me the next day and I would run him back to pick up his car. He didn't call and I never did see him again
