I started a building maintenance company. I bought a used uhaul truck to move materials and equipment to jobsites. One of my friends asked me if he could start a moving company and use the truck> I said sure cause I didn't use it all the time. He was a very good mover but after a couple years of doing it he said he was going to quit. He couldn't get enough customers to make it work. I asked if I could take it over and he said sure. So I registered the name and put ads in the papers everyday. He was only advertising sporadically. But if you advertised daily your name was at the top and was more visible. The moving business was great. At one time I had three trucks going but I found that unless I was on the truck things weren't getting moved the way I wanted. Quality service was something I needed to have. Having multiple trucks was pointless if the customers weren't satisfied. It reminded me of a burger place I used to eat at when I was a kid. There was one location and the food was awesome. And it was awesome because the owner was there everyday working alongside his employees making sure they did it right. And to this day it makes great burgers. I know because I went back and had one three weeks ago. Still great. But his brother also started a burger restaurant but he franchised and had over a dozen locations. And while the food where he was at was good the quality lacked at his other locations. Hew lasted three years before he went bankrupt. I learned from thatn and only ran one truck. maybe not as much money. But more satisfied customers.
