I’m supposed to be studying for my Nutrition final now and....ehhhh. I’ve got the end-of-semester-don’t-give-a-damns. Plus, it’s worth 30% of our grade and I’ve done very well so far in the class, so I’m aiming for a 50% :P
We had our white coat ceremony yesterday. Apparently a lot of schools do one towards the beginning of the curriculum but I like how the U of M does it right before we enter clinics. It’s like a way of saying “Welcome, you’re almost a doctor! Look how far you’ve come!” It was a really nice ceremony. They had us come up on stage in groups of fives, read our names, and our teachers and some local vets put our white coats on us. Afterwards, there was cake, so Aaron, mom, dad, and I grabbed some cake and found a table outside where we didn’t have to interact with anyone. To be honest, it was a little bittersweet, since so many people were taking photos with their friends and such. But I did talk to my friend who used to be in my former class and is now in this class and that reinforced that she is happy I’m there with her :) Plus, I met her baby and she is pretty darn cute, and I’m not even a baby person!
Anyway, me and the family were unable to keep up that guise of normalcy, so mom and I ended up taking pictures of ourselves leaning over a garbage can with our cake forks, as if we were eating stuff out of the garbage. Then, my mom was pretending to eat my hand. Aaron and my dad got some photos. I’ll post a couple once I get my (digital) hands on them :)
Then, we went home, got in our PJs, and ordered delivery from Bucca di Beppo’s. We drank some celebratory Prosecco and ate way too much. It was a nice, laid back celebration.
Yay! I’ve made it this far!
My first rotation, an externship at a local hospital I wouldn’t mind working for (actually, I chose 4 of my 5 externships at places I’d like to work. The 5th is a specialty eye clinic and, while I think ophthalmology is awesome, I don’t have any intention of becoming a board certified ophthalmologist. I don’t need 4-5 more years of being a student, even if it is internships and residencies!), starts Monday the 27th! EEEEE! I’m nervous! I feel like I don’t remember enough stuff! I know a lot will come back to me and I’ll have plenty of opportunities to look information up as well. I just can’t believe this is actually happening. 13 more months, and, if all goes to as planned, I’m a doctor of veterinary medicine. Weird!
Oh, and thanks for all the support regarding my cardiology issue. I was really angry and frustrated at the time, but once I cooled down, I did email the girl whose name I knew in my group and she and the another girl in the group just hadn’t been in class that day and were planning on doing a google doc. So, that got sent out last night and we’ll each take lead on one of the 3 cases we’ve been assigned for the take home exam. Phew. That was definitely the least unpleasant outcome. Also, group work is a bitch.
Anyway, off to go study nutrition stuff. Only 2 more days of class left and 3 exams! WHEEEE
