OK, I fancy myself as a MOVIE BUFF, and not just horror, action, and futuristic movies either, I’m talking old school, perfectly made movies, ones that have stood the test of time.............well I guess that doesn’t mean much these days because HOLLYWOOD is dam near remaking EVERYTHING, like for example FOOTLOOSE, a movie that starred KEVIN BACON back in 1984, I’ve seen that movie so many times I dam near can remember every line, joke, and dance move, BUT then came FOOTLOOSE 2011, I cringe, yelled at my t.v, I even told my wife THERE’S NO FOOTLOOSE WITH BACON DAMMIT, she laughed at me of course(because she hated it too, but loved the original) but that not the only one they DESTROYED in my opinion, ROBOCOP, ANNIE, MAD MAX( actually I’m looking forward to seeing this one), THE CROW, POINT BREAK( I can feel PATRICK SWAYZE rolling over in his grave), SPLASH( yes, the one with DARRYL HANNA?), and others that if you ask me the should just LEAVE ALONE, but one movie I’m mad about more then any remake they have made so far, its a movie that lanched a movie career that had spanned dam near 40 plus years, it’s a movie that nobody, NOOOOBOOODY liked except me, and that movie is (drumroll) ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, a 1981 classic that made KURT RUSSELL a action star, he was in DISNEY MOVIE before this one(even those Disney owns the company it was made by) and it so campy that it was AWESOME...........but the HOLLYWOOD RUNDOWN MACHINE is remaking(or reimaging, it all the same right) this classic JOHN CARPENTER( love this man) movie, now I can go on and on about how much I’m hating this idea, but I can also say if they put in the right people that MAYBE it will not be that bad.........bare with me here...........there are three things they can do for this remake that will not keep me from having a heart attack.....1. CASTING, there are only TWO STARS in my mind that can pull off SNAKE PLISSKEN............Leonardo DiCaprio or Charlie Hunnam, either one of these men can pull off the main character, there both rugged, the smoke, there seasoned, and can grow A FIVE OCLOCK SHADOW like nobody’s business, plus there both great actors. 2. WARDEN HAUK, this is who I would get to play this role, none other then the man that did the first time around KURT RUSSELL, that would be the ultimate PASSING OF THE TORCH moment, you have the OLD snake talking to the new SNAKE, plus it would pay homage to the original having Kurt in it (LEE VAN CLEEF died December 16, 1989) so why the hell not. 3. NEW YORK CITY, the big (rotten) apple, now the original is set in 1997, but had 1981 special FX, but now its the future(way pass 1997, which by the way when it was 97 I called it THE ESCAPE YEAR) so they have CGI, so most if not all of N.Y. can be made to look........well as bad as it actually is, and make it this year instead of 97, I love NEW YORK, most of my family and cousins were born or raised there, but back in 1981(and even sometimes now) I hated it(which is why I loved this movie). But ladies and gentlemen, Hollywood is killing mine and probably your movies from your youth, but there nothing to stop it short of stop watching them...........but there no fun in that.............UNTIL NEXT TIME FOLKS.
