I never know what the trigger will be but from time to time my mind wanders into a new space without warning. I had just read a brief article about AA and individuals fixating on how much clean time they have accumulated.
most of the Groups I am aware of do give a Er either a coin or some other recognition for the length of his sobriety. Commonly it is a coin with Roman Numerals indicating the length of his sobriety. I carry one with the XXVI displayed.
AA helps us to not drink for today. Celebrating multiples of today feeds the ego but takes the focus off of today. AA itself has never legitimized this practice by issuing a celebratory coin or chips and I take that as a subtly sign of disapproval.
So I will carry my coin but continue to count my days as of now at 9515 of them. After all I am an Alcoholic and not yet free from all my character defects.
