We ended up having not one but two therapy sessions today -- one with one of our normal therapists, and the second with our new Behavioral Therapist. We chatted about a ton of things, but mostly about sensory issues, which she can see just by watching Joshua, he has a lot of.
She made a lot of suggestions and has a lot of items that they can either give or loan to us to try to help with things. She left one of those fold up "tunnels" at our house today, and he's been playing with it for HOURS. It gives him that stimulation that he's seeking. She also suggested things like a ball pit, tents, a body sock, and weighted blankets. We see her again Thursday, so we'll see.
She also suggested a doctor that she knows of about 30 minutes from here, who's a certified DAN! doctor. They deal with things like brain function testing, candida and probiotic testing, brain nutrition analysis, and toxicity analysis. They don't "heal" Autism, but they really try to make it manageable by working on them from the inside out. They use nutrition and supplements/vitamins to treat symptoms. And this doctor supposedly takes insurance. So, I will be calling them soon.
But first -- tomorrow we have an appointment with the Children's Medical Center. They will be doing the full evaluation/analysis for Autism. It's going to be about 3 hours long, plus an hour ride there and another hour back. My FIL is going to watch Liam while Josh goes with Joshua and I. This is a big step in the diagnosis process, and we're SO LUCKY to have gotten in this quickly, as the waiting list is 6 months or longer.
My days are so busy now, I didn't think they could GET busier. We're up to 4-5 therapy sessions a week now. Plus more doctors visits will be getting scheduled as we start seeing new doctors. I spend so much time thinking about/planning what meals the kids can or cannot have. Between meals I have to plan out what and when Joshua needs his supplements and vitamins. Not to mention, PLAYING with the kids and keeping them busy. I have no time for myself. None. What's a shower? I don't remember my last one...
I'm supposed to be getting together with a friend (and our kids) on Friday. She wants to get together and bake, she has all the stuff to bake lots of gluten free and dairy free stuff. And she ordered some stuff for salve-making, and gave me some of the stuff she had that I needed -- so hopefully soon i'll be able to get a batch together. My first batch will be the calendula healing salve (great for dry skin, eczema, soothing, healing, cuts, burns, etc etc) and then I want to make a "Vicks" like salve for decongestion etc which should be great for the winter and will be 100% safe for ANY age. Every penny I make will be going either towards a few new materials ( to make more) or to Joshua's fund for vitamins/supplements, sensory items, food, or doctor's visits.
