Rachel and I and the kids took a trip up to Freeport yesterday, mostly to shop at LL Bean, but really just to get out of Boston for a day. Not that heading to Maine really rescued us from the snowy conditions, but at least it was a change of scenery.

It’s interesting to see Rachel really play with my kids in a way she never used to. It’s like something clicked with her maybe about a year ago and then suddenly she was all about motherhood. I don’t ask her how adoption is coming along mostly because I don’t want to upset her if it’s bad news. But I can see how badly she wants children of her own.

We bought an enormous amount of stuff we probably don’t need. We had some good food at middle eastern restaurant we both like, and we got some fresh milk at a farm we’ve somehow started enjoying visiting whenever we go to Maine.

On the way home we talked more about her moving out. I’m sad to think about it, even though it would be nice to have the whole big house to ourselves. She told me it was a definite thing and that she and Guy have already been close to making an offer on a few places. I’m hoping it doesn’t happen too quickly.
