We didn't go to church today. John offered to take me, but he wanted to go see Ender's Game and I can't do church AND a movie in one day... it's got to be either/or, and I wanted to do something nice with him today. So the movie it was. For some reason I found it very difficult to walk on the carpet at the movie theatre today. It felt soft and squishy like walking on grass, which is something else I can't really do. I had to take it super slow and look at my feet the whole time so I didn't fall over, and of course we were in the very farthest screening room from the door! It was worth the trek though. I was surprised that Ender's Game wasn't filmed in 3D. I would have thought it would be a natural for it, but seeing it, I think that Orson Scott Card probably felt that 3D for the sake of it would be too much of a distraction... it was disorienting enough every time they had a zero-G scene in the battleroom or the shuttle. I had to blink and look away a few times because it was making me dizzy. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't develop any of the characters other than Ender. They were all just background for him. But that's how the original story was. When it comes down to it, I enjoy Ender's Shadow much more than Ender's Game because it shows how the others relate to him. They said they used both books as source material but I didn't really see anything drawn from the second book. John really likes the Ender books and we have them all on audiobook so I've heard bits of them many times because we play an audiobook when we go to bed every night.
I decided I wanted Burger King for dinner so we stopped to pick some up on the way home. I haven't had anything from Burger King in years and I kind of wish I hadn't now... the chicken parmesan sandwich sounded really good, but it tasted like it had been SOAKED in MSG. It tasted just like I remember KFC chicken tasting, and I can't eat that either. I took one bite and had to pass it over to John before it made me sick. I had half his Whopper instead, and they're not my favourite thing to eat, and then I nuked myself a bowl of veggies so I didn't starve. I liked the satisfries... but I think we'll stick to Wendys from now on.
I saw a neat ad while we were at the movies. They're having a special double screening on the day that the new Hunger Games movie opens, showing the Hunger Games at 5.30 followed by Catching Fire at 8 (or something like that.) We never saw the Hunger Games on the big screen and I think it would be really neat to go... it might be being over-optimistic to think I can sit through two movies though. I'm VERY stiff and sore by the time I get to the end of one. If we go, I'll have to take some heavy-duty pain meds... but I think it would be worth it.
John's off work tomorrow for Veteran's Day because the banks are closed. He's going to do some training at home because it's not technically a vacation day, but he'll be here to take me to yoga in the afternoon. He's been wanting bbq pork, so I bought some boneless spareribs and I'll put them into the oven first thing in the morning and let them slow-cook all day. They should be ready for eating when I get back from the gym.
