Stroke of genius. in Winter 2014/2015

For several years I have wanted to build an extension onto our house where the conservatory is, but what I’ve wanted to do is extend the kitchen.

However, the girls were building a den using our dining table and pulled it into the middle of our living/dining room. And a couple of things that I’ve always thought about came to mind. Firstly, I’ve always felt that the kitchen still wouldn’t be big enough to be a kitchen diner and secondly, I love having the conservatory to sit in on warm days.

The moment of genius was this. Do the conversion but turn the kitchen and conservatory into a living room, and turn our current living room into a kitchen/diner.

This is a vague idea of the current layout - it isn’t totally correct because the kitchen end of the living room is narrower than the garage end however, you get the idea.

The front door is at the garage end on the right hand corner of the living room and there’s a door from the kitchen to conservatory as well as double doors out of the conservatory. I would put windows all around the outside of the new living room part so we would still have the conservatory effect and we would have double doors put on the new kitchen (current living room) into the garden at the top end.

Of course, we’ll need to win some money from somewhere first....
