So recently I’ve been catching up on my reading of classic books: Wilde, Faulkner, Dickens; that I have been ignoring for a REAL long time-in fact, since high school. As I prepared to make a list and “read” twice, I have found time to read whenever I can. Philosophy, mind and body, all that la-te-da; there are a few common elements that string themselves together: theory. A person can be a philosopher, a writer, a poet, a philanthropist; only by full admission of self-realization. Are philosophers special just because they have a theory or a hypothesis? Are writers talented if they write in a particular style, “their” style? Of course! that is what makes them human-we are only human. Our imperfections make us perfect, makes us individuals. Everyone is different, so why not embrace it? Our opinion matters and we need to respect each other’s, which is why we are put on this earth-our earth. Thomas Paine’s “Blanque Tableou” or “blank-slate” as Americans have termed it, has a big impact on our health and emotional well-being of our lives. Even Paine was a philosopher-a famous one at that! But what makes him special, well-known and famous-a publication of his own beliefs? It seems that with the technology boom has flattened the world, so that everyone can be a philosopher: published, accomplished. I have pondered this whole philosopher thing…I guess Andy Warhol was right, “in the future, we will all have our fifteen minutes of fame.”
