Poor Evie :( in 2015

Went over to Amanda’s today to continue Orphan Black and have pizza. I also brought her a cute Korean peach lip balm that we started carrying at Sephora, and I only knew of the brand because dad bought me a couple other things from South Korea and one was from the same brand (it was hand lotion in a panda jar). Korean cosmetics are way more awesome than American ones.

In other news, Evie went blind in her left eye and they are basically trying not to let the same thing happen to her right. Back in January, mom sent me a photo of Evie squinting her left eye. She took her to the vet and the vet had no idea what it was except suggesting someone sprayed something into her face, which left my mom feeling awful because Evie is a chicken and doesn’t “get into things” and it’s only Mom and Dad, nobody else around. Plus Evie went to sleep fine and woke up with it swollen shut.

Well, recently mom went to her own eye doctor for another reason, and apparently the eye doctor moonlights as a pet eye doctor too ! So when mom was mentioning Evie, the ophthalmologist got really concerned and told mom to bring her in. Mom brought her in less than a week ago, to find out that Evie developed acute glaucoma, lost her sight completely, and could lose her sight in her right eye now !

Needless to say, mom was pissed and upset. Evie is a sight hound, so for her to lose 50% and possibly more of her sight is devastating. Beyond that, mom is angry at our normal vet (well, normal vet clinic–we rarely see the same vet twice because they cycle through them for some reason) because she totally missed this. It’s not like glaucoma is some uncommon disease, you know ?

I am so sad for my little puppy :( I wish I was with her, and I do hope her right eye can be saved. She went into the pet ER on Thursday because her right eye started swelling and mom didn’t know what to do. But other that that… Evie is all right. I will still take a blind dog when I move ! (if I move to a place that allows dogs when Cori and I move from here–I still plan to have Evie even though she will be older by then)

Cori and I both worked a full day yesterday (Valentine’s Day), so we spent most of Friday at home. It was one of the first days off we both had at the same time in a long while. He did homework, I helped, I also called mom (that was when she told me about Evie–Cori had called my mom on Thursday to talk to her and she let him know at that point, but then she filled me in the next day) and because mom sent us a $75 Olive Garden gift card, we decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day (our first one actually together in the same zip code !) on Friday. Unfortunately we don’t live near a lot of chain restaurants (or fortunately depending on how you look at it–we’re not picky but we do like local flavor) so we went to Colerain and the wait at the Olive Garden was nearly 2 hours ! So we went to Red Lobster instead (owned by the same people so the gift cards work there, too). The wait was 45 minutes so we walked across the street to Half Priced Books until our buzzer went off. We totally splurged–got an appetizer, nice drinks, I got a full Cajun salmon portion and he got the Ultimate Feast (we took home leftovers for last night’s dinner) and when all was said and done, we only forked over about $2 (you can use the gift cards for tips, too). Hey, I told you we splurged.

It was the first time in awhile we did something like that, too. I mean, we did go to Dewey’s Pizza randomly a couple weeks ago because Cori got a random check from an aunt, and then we did go to Friday’s when his brother was here for Christmas, and before that in October we went to a new Moroccan cafe around the corner, but that’s the extent of our going out to eat since moving in together. So that’s… 4 times in 8 months. I wish we could go out more often… I mean, not all the time (money and calories and all that…) but maybe like, once every other week. And new places each time, too. Someday.

When I clocked out from work last night, Ashley was talking to me, asking if I was married, so we talked a bit about that. She’s been engaged for 3 years but has a daughter with the guy. She’s 24. Cori and I have talked about it; we don’t avoid it. I know Cori wants and wishes to marry me, but he’s still traditional in the sense that he wants to propose with a ring and all that, and for now the rent is more important. I’ve told him that I have my grandma’s old wedding band and engagement ring (platinum) and it’s very understated and if he wanted to see if he can get it resized (grandma had tiny fingers) or reset, we can use that. I don’t need or want anything fancy. Not that Cori and I don’t have little squabbles, but we are doing really well together, even when we’re stressed out. Heck, the biggest “argument” we had was when I came back from Virginia in September and found out he had watched porn. He immediately wanted to make it right and we came to an agreement… so it wasn’t even an argument so much as an emotional discussion. And honestly, even though I don’t like it, maybe I was overreacting.

Anyway. Must go make hummus.
