I can see this overpass from the apartment, and it’s at the exit I use every day for coming home from work.
Interestingly enough, on my way home from work on the ramp, I saw all the big construction stuff on the tiny, old, falling-apart overpass (that they only closed around Christmas) and thought to myself, “It doesn’t look like that overpass can hold all those vehicles.” But I thought nothing else of it.
In any case, they’re not sure what caused it to collapse prematurely. But it’s weird when something like this happens (literally) in your backyard. I took a shower around 10:20 PM and had the window open (we don’t have a vent in the bathroom so I open it ALL the time lol) and I did hear an unusually loud BOOM before getting out of the shower (so much construction here, I didn’t think anything of it; we’re always hearing loud construction sounds) and while we live within 4 hospitals, a fire department and police station, sirens are commonplace; but then a few minutes later, I heard multiple sirens AND saw and heard helicopters. Now I know what it was.
Only reason I’m posting this is because even mom called just to make sure I wasn’t around the highway when it happened (she thought I was closing tonight, and if I had been, I WOULD have been there right when it happened). But I got home near 6 and the overpass didn’t collapse until 10:30. But apparently she heard it on the news in Fairfax ! (Virginia)
I really need to devote more time to this thing.
I picked up shifts at Sephora, and am actually working every day this week including having worked last Friday, Saturday, yesterday, and today. Today was insanely busy–like Black Friday but with less employees. I know any holiday generates extra traffic, but everyone was surprised just how busy it was.
So things are going all right. I got paid on Friday but it was at my old rate with not so many hours. My next paycheck should be more than all right–I had 26 hours last week and will have something like 35 hours this week–plus it will be at my increased rate AND we are in 5th tier bonus which means a good chunk of extra money.
I also received several full-size gratis, like a cleanser from GlamGlow, a NARS foundation, a Tarte BB cream, and a redness-reducing moisturizer from Ole Henriksen called Nuture Me (which smells like sherbet and my skin already looks so much less red). Plus Amber sent me home with a TON of samples because I expressed interest in specializing in skincare and haircare.
Ugh. Seriously. I really hope I continue to love working at Sephora. I know it’s not perfect by any means, but compared to Benetton… it’s heaven. And I do enjoy it, even though like any retail job, it’s not without its annoyances and stresses and complications.
In other news, Cori and I are still doing great. We get along, we communicate, we make time to have fun even though he is back in school for the spring semester and working AND doing his practicum, and obviously I’m getting and picking up more hours. We are still trying to watch our finances but we are doing okay in that regard. Only just, but okay.
We’ve been together for a year and nearly 9 months and been living together the last 6 months. I do hope we can keep this going. We’ve discussed our future together and I think we are on the same page.
And last thing, while I still can’t get an appointment with a therapist (mostly for stress management and maybe PTSD–Cori’s suggestion, not mine) or my own general practitioner and I’ve been trying since September, I was able to make a gynecologist appointment for the 26th in West Chester (not convenient but I wasn’t going to be choosy at that point). Funny thing is, the gynecologist I’m seeing looks EXACTLY like Glynnis (one of my old co-workers from Jacadi in 2011 and 2012) as per her doctor page on the women’s health center’s website. AWKWARD. XD
Still hearing lots of helicopters. Used to be a normal thing in Fairfax; feels weird here in Cinci.
