Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster in Day to Day

The reason I haven’t written this week is down to the Charlie Hebdo event. I’ve actually written twice, but somehow been unable to express how I feel, and not published it. I’m not going to try again.

I will say this; the Pope yesterday said he believes there are limits to the freedom of expression - and that anyone who swears at his mother deserves a punch. I find that statement quite horrifying. He’s actually advocating retaliation for insulting speech. The comment was made in relation to the Paris attacks in which people were executed in retaliation for insulting speech. I have no time for the Catholic church in general. It’s a perfectly foul organisation which was caught attempting to cover up child rape within its own ranks to avoid negative publicity. However, I was starting to have some respect for the current pope himself. Not any more however. He’s just as bad as the ex-nazi, paedophile apologist he replaced.

And on to more cheerful matters:

I’ve had agonising back pain this week. I’m not sure what I did, but I suspect I shouldn’t have tried sit-ups. In any case, I have been given industrial strength pain killers and they work well. On Sunday I was walking like a duck, and in agony. Today, I am suffering only twinges. I also managed to slice open my finger while chopping vegetables last week. I sprayed blood all over the kitchen and was forced to apply a comedy bandage for several days.

OK, one more thing. It’s the Dragon’s birthday next month and I have bought her a cool music player. Don’t tell her! I’m going to pick it up tonight. We’re going to spend her birthday in Devon I think, and go out to dinner with my mother. So, we can wrap up the music machine and she can have it there. I’m quite excited.
