Don't hate in Religion

I decided to create a separate book to talk about religious things since I know not everyone wants to read that sort of thing. I have a lot of new feelings regarding religion though, and I want to have a place to write them down.

It was an interesting experience for me this Christmas to, for the first time, actually think about the religious aspect of the holiday. And to try to explain it to my children, two of whom now at least are old enough to grasp some concept of it.

We’ve started saying a prayer before meals as a family. The kids took to the idea so quickly that they seemed disappointed when we had Christmas dinner with the family and there was no prayer. I had to try to explain to them that not everyone does that, and we shouldn’t judge people for not believing the same things we do.

And that’s a concept I’m still working on in my own life. I love Megan, and I love her wife. They are family and very important people to me. Nothing could ever change that, and I try really hard not to judge them or look down on them in any way. But I do believe it’s a sin to be a lesbian. I know some people will have a problem with me saying that, but it’s what I believe.

But I don’t love my sister any less for being a lesbian. And that’s the philosophy that I want to teach my kids. We believe what we believe but we don’t hate people for not feeling the same way.
