Gypsy jazz and Rebel girls in The dotted line

You know those weeks where you try really hard and it all somehow turns out worse than if you hadn't tried at all ?!

I think the weekend is to blame. I spent so long outside in the real world, around crowds of people, which is rarer these days, and throw in a bit of gin and coffee and all the sugary-stuff and I think I see how I created my own imbalance!

It was worth it though, the music was excellent. It's the first year we'd prioritised jazz (which is harder to find at this jazz festival than you'd think!) and somehow spent more time in a church than we did in our old favorite pub venue! The gypsy jazz won it for me. A trio playing double bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, a fiddle and vocals. Half the set was 20s/30s classics and the rest was more modern songs (Beatles and later) in the gypsy jazz style. I definitely want to catch that group again somewhere, but it looks like they only really gig in Liverpool.

And the aftermath! I've been dropping plates all week. I wasted nearly a whole day re-designing a fundamental anchor in our new site, only to come full circle, realise the setup we already have is correct and just needs expanding... and to rub it in, when I went back to the requirements and re-read them, I realised that simple expansion had been the remit all along. Thank goodness for version control!

Then I stayed up ridiculously late trying to arrange a last-min birthday gift for my great-neice (I'd not realised the date, with all the weekend merriment). Nothing was going to get there in time. My fault, I'd just have to be honest with them. I found something really cool.. Rebel Girls journal set! It contains stories of female empowerment, e.g. those of Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo and Malala Yousafzai and asks the kiddo (she's only 9) to think write about when they've courageously gone against the flow.

Pretty awesome and it has loads of cool, shiny stationary she'll enjoy. Feeling pretty chuffed, I got it wrapped and sent and... only then realised her Mum had messaged me days ago telling me they're going away for a birthday mini break. So not only did I not need to worry about rushing.. but by getting it sorted and sent I've created an extra problem as they won't be there to receive the parcel (and it's too late for me to reschedule the delivery)! Flipping Mcflippertons.

Do these things come in threes?

Can I avoid the 3rd by just not trying?! 😆
