Crumbling Walls in New Chapters

I have no doubt that this place is haunted. There's been too much that's happened to lead me to think otherwise. Whatever though. I grew up in a haunted house so it really isn't that big a deal to me. Oh sure the dresser falling onto me was a huge deal but since then it's just been little things that I can deal with. I don't believe in fairies but if I did, I'd swear it was them.

My crumbling wall has been fixed. It looks even better than it did when we first moved in here.

Yesterday after the work on the wall was done I wanted some lunch. He wanted one thing, I wanted another. No problem right? We make plans and God laughs. He was having a grand time at my expense yesterday and that's okay.

It started out with the opening of a can. My can opener wasn't working. I had this thing for years and though it has served it's purpose far longer than I could ever expect I was still bummed that it had just quit. I surely had a manual can opener. Nope. That led me to be reminded that my mother-in-law had gotten us one of those can openers that don't leave a sharp edge. She'd gotten it for us last Christmas. I put it in a drawer and didn't think anything of it until yesterday. I got it out of the package and tried to use it. It didn't work. No batteries. Surely I have batteries around here right? I pulled out two rechargeable batteries. They were dead. I put them in the charger thinking it would only take a few minutes for the job I needed. I plugged the charger into the wall. It wouldn't work. I assumed that the batteries were just that dead. I had given up at that point when my husband offered the use of two of us his batteries from one of his gadgets. Put them back as soon as you're done though. I did. I was finally able to get the can open and lunch was had.

Fast forward to this morning. I wanted a toasted bagel for breakfast. I put the bagel in the toaster and lo and behold the toaster is now not working! What is going on around here. He metioned that maybe they'd turn the breaker off yesterday when they were working on the wall. I checked. They had. I flipped it back to on and suddenly my toaster, along with my can opener is working again. The batteries that wouldn't charge are now charging.

So this time it wasn't the ghost or whatever haunts this place.

Though if I'm being honest I did smell my old neighbor a couple of nights ago. She smoked menthol cigarettes. She smoked like a chimney and even from a few yards away you could smell her home. From outside. You could smell where she'd been. After she'd passed I would still from time to time, find cigarette butts with her lipstick on them. A couple of days ago I could smell her cigarette smell. It was so strong. Neither of us smoke and we don't allow smoking in our home. This was definitely a cigarette smell.

Oddly enough I suspect that she may be the one who haunts this place. I don't think she was the one with the dresser but I do think she is one possible entity that haunts this place. Sometimes I swear I can still see her, out of the corner of my eye walking around and talking to herself. I miss when she was good. I fondly remember the mocktail with the 7-up and the maraschino cherry to make it fancy in a fancy cup too. One of her frogs is still in my front yard. It was knocked down yesterday morning when I went out. That's the first time that has happened in years.

Makes me wonder.
