An Update in The Start of Something: 2026

Hello Everyone. If you had read my previous journal entry, then thank you for the advice. I thought maybe you’d like an update. And your advice is always welcome.

I started work. I did 2 shadow shifts at their “Hub”, which were okay. I didn’t really know what to do, and they basically already expected me to know what to do (even though this is my first job and I’m not experienced)

Whilst I did get ‘training’, it was some silly little online thing that I did in my own time that took months for me to do, and basically prepared me by 0% and just gave me knowledge because it was so crammed and I’ve not been able to put to test in a practical sense, I’ve already forgotten most of it.

Then, after what might have been 2 weeks to find me a ‘client in the community’, they found someone. Obviously, I can’t say who or give any details because of confidentiality, but let’s just say I was actually happy and felt comfortable. I did 3 days with her, I was starting to settle and get into the rhythm and my comfort zone.

I showed up for my 4th day (somewhat excited, as excited as one would be when you have to wake up at 8 am to get ready for work because you have to catch a bus) and I arrived. I bought myself some lunch and waited outside her house, then rang the doorbell twice.

Then my phone rang. The client had cancelled, and they didn’t inform me of this, and I know from the way they talked that they had known about this longer than it was “last-minute”.

Which brings me today. Yes, I am employed. I learned my contract is 0 hours, which I didn’t know or didn’t understand (because nobody explained what that meant, I assumed I knew), and now I’m stuck at home waiting for a call that might or might not happen that I am required to work. It’s been 1 week. I know that’s not a long time, but that is 1 week I am not getting.

Thank god. I don’t live alone and have to pay my own bills. Thank god that I live with my parents, and thank god that I still get my universal credit benefits, because if it wasn’t, then I’m not sure what I’d do. Mum says that I still have to pay rent, but she’ll go easy on me because of what happened (Can’t say a landlord would do the same).
