I lost a paint pan yesterday. It flew out of my hand, bounced off the table and lodged down the back of an inaccessible radiator!

It wasn't the strangest thing to happen recently though.
Last week I was invited into a meeting at work, where I was told that everyone was being made redundant.. except me.

That's a mixed bag of feelings.
We knew the company had been struggling for a long time, AI's rise has really impacted us, but even so I didn't see this coming.
We've all worked together for over a decade, we had a strong little team. It's all quite surreal.
Are they coping okay with the news? What support can I give? Will they resent me?
And can I cope without their expertise, their support, their banter to help keep me sane?
I'll also no longer be a traditional developer.
Is generative AI still seen as morally bankrupt if you're being asked to use it to do the job that AI stole from you?
I'm relieved and grateful that I still have my job, at a company I've enjoyed working at for a long time, but these are huge changes and I'm really gonna miss those guys.
