Moving Right Along in Bring Some Dominoes

Jackie and April are both on vacation.  Not together or anything.  While they're both good friends of mine, they don't know each other, nor do they know of each other.  They're members of my circle and I speak to them daily.  Well, at least during the week anyway.  April tends to take regular vacations, while Jackie sort of forced this one on herself.  Jackie was steadily reaching burnout and she could see and feel it.  She decided that she needed to do something to regain/restore her sanity.  I guess in her world, regaining her sanity meant traveling to Mexico somewhere.  I don't know where exactly in Mexico she had gone, but she went.  Her brother was getting married in Mexico and she wanted to be there for those festivities.  April visited Las Vegas, NV for the week.  That's interesting.  Jackie, who lives in Las Vegas, felt compelled to leave the place, while April decided to spend a week there to decompress.  Either way, their respective vacations will come to an end soon enough.  Jackie returns to work tomorrow, while April will be in her office on Tuesday.

As for me, I don't have a vacation scheduled.  I haven't even bothered to look at a calendar for any prospective dates for when I could make my escape from my office.  As of this writing, I'm not going anywhere.  Maybe I like work too much?  Maybe I know that if I take any time off, my paycheck will be adversely impacted (there is a noticeable difference in getting paid for 80 hours and getting paid for between 150 and 160 hours)?  Maybe I can't enough of the people I work with?  Actually, if you know me and have been reading my entries, you'll know that that last line was complete bullshit.  I despise a good percentage of my coworkers.  I wouldn't mind escaping them, even if temporarily.  If there was ever a break that I could use, it would definitely be from them.  But as it stands, I'm not going anywhere.

I was going through my cell phone last night, deleting old conversations from as recently as last summer, dating all the way to 2022 and probably older.  I had reached a point where I eventually stopped looking at dates, months, and even years and seeing just how old some of those dead and abandoned conversations were.  One of the more recent conversations that I deleted was one with a former friend, who at one point during our friendship and that text conversation, felt that she needed to try and convince me that Daniel Caesar is a great and talented singer.  There were a few other modern musicians that she tried to convince me were good (Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, and SZA, among so many others), but in the end, her words eventually started to fall upon deaf ears and blind eyes.  She even thought that revealing to me that Daniel Caesar was her favorite singer would somehow help her case.  It didn't.

For the record, Daniel Caesar is absolute and utter garbage.  How that sorry mother fucker got a record deal, I will never know or understand.

I told her that pretty much, most music that came out after 2003 is pretty bad and I'm unlikely to listen to any of it, unless that music happens to be from artists who had already established themselves prior to that arbitrary 2003 year.  Fair or not, I told her that music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's was and is so much better than anything that so-called musicians are making today and frankly, it's not even close.

So and as unfair as I deemed it to be, I had sent her the following video below, just to give her a small taste of what I was referring to.

Comparing Toni Braxton to Daniel Caesar is not a fair comparison, at least not to Caesar, and I guess in some way, it's also a slap in Braxton's face for anyone (myself included) to compare her to someone was terrible as Caesar.  I'm not saying that Toni Braxton has the greatest voice ever recorded, but the differences between her and Caesar cannot be ignored or overstated.  I suppose it might also help that Babyface wrote that song above and well, Babyface's own musical talent is also hard to deny or overlook.  Look at how many songs, quality songs at that, that he has written.  Suffice it to say that he's written more than a few.

It's back to business as usual come Monday.  I'll be back in the office at my usual 4:40am.  Once people start rolling in, I'll need to resort to putting my headphones in and listening to some of the music that I use to drown out the ambient noise in my vicinity.

Toni Braxton?  Of course.

Daniel Caesar?  Fuck no.
