for christmas and as a graduation present, my parents bought me tickets to see elton john at the barclays center here in NYC! it was nice to have my parents here for a few days and the concert was amazing!

if you don’t know, i am a HUGE elton john fan! i absolutely love his music and him as a person. I have a bunch of his records framed and hanging in my apartment and i am apart of elton john fan groups. yes, this might be odd for someone of my age (26), but i’ve loved his music since i was 9. i connected with his music and him because he was a shy, kinda nerdy person growing up with glasses who loved to play the piano, just like me. he’s just wonderful!

anyway, the concert was great! i had wonderful seats behind the stage. the set list was a bit predictable, but that was expected because it was a greatest hits tour and new year’s eve. the barclays was sold out though! and i was FINALLY in a section where everyone was singing and dancing and having a great time. there was a fan behind me who kept yelling out “i love you elton!” and the guy sitting next to me knew almost all the words to every song. i also had a weird moment with a drunk lady in front of me. she was around my age and very drunk (she kept being told not to lean on the railing in front of here because it wasnt sturdy). i was singing “mona lisas and mad hatters” (my song for me and my dad) and she turned around, grabbed my hand, squeezed and shook it, before going back to her drunk dancing. it was weird and im not sure if it was meant as “you go girl!” or “please dont sing so loud”. oh well! it was an amazing night! i got to see all the band members pretty close up and elton’s son elijah! his husband david was not there (or at least didnt come out at midnight). there was some sound issues and davy’s guitar strap broke at one point and had to be fixed. there was also a big miscommunication about the count down and elton was yelling at a guy i assume to be the stage manager at the barclays. we only counted down from 3! a bunch of people got engaged on the floor too. it was an amazing night!!

my parents had a great time. they havent been down to hang out in the city in a couple of years. they took the train into penn station and we checked their bags for a few hours so we could go do some sight seeing. i took them through times square, up to rockefellar center to see the tree, then we headed up to strawberry fields, as per my moms request because she had never seen it. then we walked back down and ended up eating around lincoln center. really delicious chowder house yum! then we headed back to my apartment and hung out. we ordered chinese for dinner and watched “the to do list”. omg, super funny! very sexual in nature, so my dad was a little uncomfortable, but it was funny. yesterday, dann had to work, so my parents and i hung out, then we went to see “into the woods” which was amazing!! if you enjoy musicals, you must go see this movie! then we came back and hung out some more before the concert. it was nice having them down. my dad ended up reorganizing my kitchen set up and flipped the doors on my fridge. my parents are not people who can sit and do nothing, so im not surprised my dad took it upon himself to do some work. my mom also did the dishes and helped clean up when i insisted they didnt need to do anything. my dad also got mad because i was going to pay for the chinese food and he wanted to pay. i felt bad because they spent so much money on the tickets, i felt the least i could do was buy them dinner. we ended up splitting it. he got all dad voice on me and said “amanda, either we split it or i pay for the whole thing. thats it!” so we split it. anyway, it was great having them here. it will be nice to be sleeping back in my bad tonight instead of on the pull out couch.

hopefully hubby will be done raiding on world of war craft soon. im getting sleepy and need to make sure i get back on my sleep schedule in the next few days. i need to finish writing my unit plans for january too…sigh back to the grind!

hope everyone had a wonderful new year’s celebration!
