Are the Winter Olympics finally over? I happened to randomly come across the story on Yahoo that the United States beat Canada to take the gold medal in ice hockey today. Whatever. I don't follow the National Hockey League and I couldn't care less about hockey in general and that's at any level, professional or otherwise. I didn't give a damn about the Winter Olympics either. As far as the U.S. winning the gold medal in hockey, I don't care. I don't think that I should care, not even as a matter of national pride and if it matters, I've never cared about the Olympics in any capacity either. As they always do, at least for me, the Olympics will just sort of come and go. When they come around again, I will likely forget that they're even occurring at that time too. I just don't care.
I've noticed, at least locally, that it's been becoming increasingly difficult to go shopping and not be pestered by people waiting to ambush anyone looking to enter or exit any kind of supermarket or store in general. These people, who have decided to post up at seemingly all store entrances and exits, are looking to sell stuff or seek signatures for some kind of petition that will bring about some manner of societal change should they obtain enough signatures. I try to ignore them, usually be putting my cell phone up to my ear and pretending that I'm in the middle of a phone call. This has always worked for me and for the time being, I don't see myself straying from this avoidant strategy any time soon. I don't know why I've seen an increase in this sort of thing, but it is making me not want to go shopping for anything. All this is going to do is make me stay home and buy everything I need through Amazon. It's going to feel like the COVID-19 lockdown all over again, which I thoroughly enjoyed at the time. Still, it sucks that I can't go shopping in peace because little Kendrick wants to sell me overpriced chocolate bars for what he claims is some kind of fundraiser or because Kumar wants me to sign a petition to stop domestic violence or put an end to the neutering of local feral cats.
The smoke detector in the hallway decided that it wanted to start beeping all of a sudden yesterday morning. It's amazing that all it took to get rid of that incessant beeping was a new 9-Volt battery. I was just lucky enough to have one lying around, because I didn't feel like driving to the nearby Target just for a battery. I don't mind going to Target. I can never just go there for just one thing and so what could have been a trip for a 9-Volt battery could have led to my spending more. Crisis averted in the end and I got rid of that damn beeping. Now, we'll see how long that battery holds.
So much for that nice little cold spell that had hit the area last week. The forecast for the coming week shows that temperatures will increase to the high 70's or even low 80's. Zero rain, while we're at it. Yeah, so much for that damn winter that keeps eluding Southern California. At this point, I'm just going to plan for temperatures to remain that high as we march towards spring. That's pretty much it. No more cold weather to speak of. I'm no longer getting my hopes up. It looks like its time to put that hoodie and those beanies away.
Work will likely remain busy next week. I'll be ready for it. I'm just hoping that my eyes don't become overly dry and that I won't come home dead tired every day. Even if I do, that's also part of my normal.
That'll do it for me. This is all I have for now.
My mundane life continues.
Yay.
