Okay…wrote most of this on Friday, and left it on my work computer! I’ve got to be more careful!! Computer guys are coming to install some new stuff later this morning, so I want to get this entry in before it’s lost!!

Been at offsite meetings and other various big-wig functions the last couple of days. A whirlwind of meetings and cocktails! It’s been interesting and pretty fun, actually. I got to hobnob with CEOs and head honchos of literally hundreds of companies!! We had these meetings last year, but I was a lowly “hostess” last year!!! I didn’t get to participate in any of the fun stuff. All I did was make sure that people were registered and went to the right place at the right time.

This year was a whole new ballgame!! I’m so happy I got promoted! I got to sit at a table with “important” people and tell them my story and hear theirs and laugh and act all important!! Hey..I am important, dammit!!!

Okay, so the other fun thing that happened at this all-important, very serious event was mucho eye-contact with this hot-hot-hotter-than-hell-o guy!! Now, I’d seen him before around the building…hangin’ out in the visitor’s center. He’s obviously a vendor. We’ve made eye-contact before. But for some reason, at these two all-day meetings, I was seeing him everywhere!! I couldn’t figure out why. But there he was, during the sign-in and at every break. He seemed to be saying something to me with his eyes each time! I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him. Oh what a dork I am!! I found myself actually searching for him during the breaks!

At the end of the day, we had a cocktail reception. I saw him on the other side of the room. He saw me too, because we locked eyes—-AGAIN! I tried not to make a big deal of it and went on with my meeting and greeting. But by the time I’d gulped down three glasses of Chardonnay, I was feeling brave. I told a former boss of mine that there was a gorgeous guy there at the meetings, and she said, “Oh, you mean that guy right over there?” and pointed right at him!!! He was talking to another guy that we knew (Mark) who noticed us looking at them! Could I have ever been more obvious in my entire life??

After a while Mark walked over to say hello, and I blurted out the question: who is that guy?! He just laughed and told me that the guy’s name is Dan and that he had been asking who I was!! * deep breath * * deep breath * * and another deep breath * No way?! Mark said, “Oh yeah, he told me that he sees you all that time and that you are always smiling and cheerful and he was just wondering who you were.”

By this time, the wine was making me retarded (I seriously need to learn how to control my wine-induced stupidity)! I told Mark that I thought Dan was so good looking that he must be an asshole! Mark told me that he was just about the nicest guy in the world, and then he invited me to join them for DINNER so that I could see just how great a guy he is!!

Luckily, I had to pick up my bestest buddy and her husband at the airport and then we were off to one of our favorite nightspots for an evening of fun! I told the guys where I’d be and just decided to forget about him for the evening. I went on my way, picked up my buds, and started celebrating and having a good time with them.

Unluckily, I hadn’t eaten anything for dinner!! Lost count of the glasses of wine. Lost track of the time. And all of a sudden who should I see walking straight towards me with his hand outstretched to greet me, but DAN!! Now remember, we hadn’t been introduced, so Dan walks right up to me and introduces himself as “the Asshole”!!!! Oh how embarrassing! But he was so jovial about it and we started laughing and joking and we were drinking more and more. I don’t even remember all we were talking about…I just remember smiling a lot like a big dork. I had NO idea that they would actually come out to the bar when I told them where we were going!!

Here’s what I do remember: telling Mark that I have a tremendous crush on Dan. I also remember Mark telling me that Dan is married. Married? That’s right…married. Not wearing a wedding band, though. I was confused, but decided to keep my crush mainly to myself.

Dan and I talked some more, but all too soon it was time for him to go home. Found out that he lives about a block from me! I told him I’d watch for him walking his dog!! Shortly thereafter, I needed to go home. Not just wanted to go, but needed to go! I cannot handle my alcohol any more!! It didn’t help that we had a meeting at 7:30 the next morning!!

To my surprise, the hangover didn’t feel that bad. Could be that there was so much to do the next day, but it didn’t seem to phase me until later in the day.

I did see Dan that morning and we recapped some of our conversations…..including some embarrassing things that I don’t even remember talking about. Oh, he is a charmer!! Oh, he is gorgeous!!

But that’s all he is gonna be to me. I will enjoy having a crush on him, I’m sure. In fact, I can’t wait until the next time I see him! But I will leave it at that. It’s still fun to fantasize!!!

Later…
