Girls’ Weekend last week was fantastic! It was wonderful to see all my home girls from….what is it….like 12 years ago now?? Sheesh! Everyone seems to be doing beautifully. And I do mean beautiful. I swear, all these chicas seem to get more beautiful and successful every time I see them. I wouldn’t say we did anything wild and crazy…especially since we weren’t in any wild and crazy location like Vegas (last year’s). We just hung out and talked and laughed mostly. Everyone brought pictures (saw some hilarious ones from last year’s trip!), old and new.

The first day, I had Jendi all to myself. It was great. She picked me up at the airport and we went straight to this cute little rooftop café for a nice liquid lunch! And the drinks never stopped that day! After lunch we went to her house. Jendi lives in this adorable house atop a hill. It is exactly what I’ve been looking for around here, but can’t find for under $700,000! Anyway, we sat on her deck in the backyard and drank vodka cranberries and listened to music and reminisced the rest of the day away.

I got a tad sentimental and slightly melancholy for a bit there as we were talking about old loves. Back in the old college days, I dated a guy named Sam. I was soooooo in love with him and it was just a given that Sam and I would eventually marry. We were “the” couple back then. Jendi admitted that everyone was always a little jealous of what we had. It was a real relationship, not like the experimental stuff that everyone seemed to be doing at the time. In hindsight, I guess my relationship with Sam ended up experimental as well, but at the time…oh, it was so real.

Jendi had two co-ed softball games that evening, so by the time her games rolled around I was good and hung over! Her boyfriend met us out there and sat with me in the bleachers. Very cool guy…I’m really happy for Jendi because she seems to be very serious about him. They’ve only been dating for almost three months, but I’ve never seen her so excited about a man in her life!! He was really nice to me, initiating most of the conversation because I was so incredibly hung over….it was embarrassing!!

After Jendi’s games (they won both!), we went to her hole-in-the-wall bar. This is the bar that sponsors her softball team. It was a great little neighborhood bar (kinda skummy…the way I love ‘em!) where everyone knows everyone. That’s one thing that I miss. I don’t have a place like that here. They hang out there after every softball game. I was still too hung over to be that social. I apologized to Jendi. She was cool….and hung over herself!

Next day was when almost all of the rest of the girls were rolling in. One by one they either drove or flew into town. It was wonderful, as always to see everyone and get to catch up. The next couple of days were spent just laughing, eating, drinking (except for the preggo!), taking pictures, watching movies, shopping and relaxing. We did go to a bar on Saturday night, and that was fun too! I participated in some guy’s bachelor party by allowing him to do a “body” shot (just a lick on the neck…verrrry innocent and sweet). They got lots of pictures of the whole ordeal. I got just barely tipsy…enough to really enjoy myself.

One of the girls, Merry, brought a video camera. It was hilarious to watch after we got back home!! I hate to say it, but I am really a ham in front of the camera! Almost embarrassing to watch! Merry had also brought video tapes of her fiancée proposing to her (he had taped it) and also a video of Janie’s wedding (Merry’s fiancée taped that too!). Very, very cool.

I left Sunday morning in time to have most of last Sunday relaxing all to myself. Jendi drove me back to the airport and we said our goodbyes. I thanked her for being such a great hostess. I am really impressed with how well Jendi is doing.

I did find out some shocking news (which was really old news—I can’t believe nobody had told me) about Janie. She had been violently attacked a few years after college and we talked about it for a little while. I’d really like to devote another entry to that. It’s just too much to put in this entry….and I think I need to take some time to think about it before I write it down. It really tore me apart.

All in all, it sure was great to have a girly weekend!! But it was fabulous to get back home too.

Why do I like being here alone…by myself so much??!!
