I told him that I should go. He told me I was welcome to stay. I really didn’t want anything to happen, and I told him so. He was completely respectful and probably wonderful to sleep with. But I wouldn’t know, because I had one of those nights where I couldn’t believe that there was someone so fantastic lying next to me, holding me with both of his arms….snoring.
I tried not to fidget, but couldn’t help it. I know I kept waking him up. But, every time he woke up, he’d hold me tighter. I can’t remember the last time I’d felt that feeling. I simply can’t. And it was soft and foggy and dreamlike and soothing.
We woke up slowly and started talking. Aah. Just lying there in his arms waxing and waning. What an unexpected treat!
We talked and talked, until 11:30, when Matt came knocking on the door. He wanted to see if Hy was ready for brunch! I’m not sure if he heard us talking, but I was a little freaked anyway. I was also worried that my car might have gotten towed because I never expected to spend the night with him, so I’d parked in a 2-hour spot! So we both bounced out of bed and finally made it to the lot where I’d parked. To my extreme relief, my car was still there without any sign of a ticket or anything!
Hy called Matt to tell him that he wasn’t going to make it to brunch. I was a tad disappointed when I heard that. But after he hung up with Matt, he turned to me and asked me if I’d meet him for coffee or something later in the afternoon. He told me that he couldn’t go to brunch because he needed to see another friend and possibly his parents too, because they live in town. I told him that I was actually planning on going into work after brunch, but that I’d love to see him anyway! We exchanged numbers, and I left to make a screaming mad dash to get ready for brunch!
Brunch was a bit awkward. My friends ribbed the hell out of me…which I don’t mind. I’m used to that. Matt was confused at the whole situation. And I had to sit across the table from some other girl that Matt tried to set up with Hy earlier the night before. She intimidated me, as she seemed much more sophisticated than I. To me, Hy seems more a match for her than me…but I guess not to Hy! Oh well. He wasn’t there, and it was just a bit strange. But it was still fun nonetheless.
Afterwards, Best Bud and Hub had to skip town and go home, and the rest of the group was going to another town about 45 minutes away and asked if I wanted to join them. The weather was so beautiful that I was tempted to go, but I really wanted to hook back up with Hy. We said our goodbyes, and I tried to reach Hy, but he wasn’t answering his phone. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if he really wanted to meet me or not!! It could have been a way to ditch me!! So I left a message saying that if I didn’t hear from him within an hour that I was going to go get some work done.
Not five minutes went by before he called and told me his location and we agreed to meet on the other side of downtown to see if any of the rooftop bars were open early on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
We ended up at a small café, drinking coffee and talking for a couple of hours on the patio. It was pleasant, except for the fact that my cold was slowly getting worse. At one point, he asked if he could sit on my side of the table so that he could hold my hand. He also told me that he wanted to see me again before I left town (I’m leaving for Europe on Friday). Um. Let’s see. That would leave some weeknight this week. He lives four hours from me! He asked if I would see him on Thursday! A four hour drive for a date on a school night!! Impressive, eh?
Not that I really believed he’d actually go through with it.
Until last night! As I was leaving work, I noticed there was a message on my mobile phone. It was Hy telling me that he’s gotten everything worked out for Thursday night including the restaurant! And that he didn’t have a meeting until 1:00 on Friday!
In a way, I’m excited. But in another way, I’m not. Not that anything will ever actually come from this, but I don’t really dig long distance relationships. In fact, I don’t do them. Well, I have before, but they don’t work. I know this for a fact. Long-distance things have been too much of a source of heartbreak for me over the years.
But that won’t stop me from enjoying my Thursday evening/night with Hy. Except for the fact that I’m a tad shaky about him spending the night. And that goes double with the fact that he’s spending the night on the night before I leave on a ten-day business trip! Which means that I certainly won’t be as relaxed as I usually am (which isn’t really saying much for a first date—I’m normally so nervous I have to chug a beer or glass of wine beforehand).
But hey…isn’t this exciting?! I never expected this!
