Dammit. Just when I think Im starting to do okay in the workout/nutrition arenas, I have a week of partying that just blows it all to hell. At least I had fun.
I did great on Monday. Went to that great torturous boot camp-like class at the gym and ate like a mouse.
Tuesday was field trip day!! Left for work at the usual time, but instead of driving to the office, I drove to the company hangar at the downtown airport and flew off to Los Angeles. It was an unusually happy day because not only was I getting out of town (finally!), it also happened to be Karens (a chick from another department) birthday. So Jen brought streamers and balloons and party hats, and we decorated the entire plane. A couple people had meetings in different locations, and all I needed to do was make one quick stop in Santa Monica. Which left time for a stroll and a leisurely lunch on the promenade. On the way back we sang happy birthday to Karen and she made everyone (including the pilots) eat birthday cake. Oof. But damn delicious. Was home by bedtime. I wish every workday could be like Tuesday.
Alas, Wednesday came along. I had a presentation and I wasnt prepared. Id meant to get some stuff done on the plane on Tuesday, but we were simply having too much fun and I didnt want to ruin the vibe. So I decided to get up at an ungodly hour to work on a fancy handout But as soon as I got to work, Boss #1 grabbed me and asked me to do a quickie project that would take me out of the office. Grr. Got it done just in time for the meetings to begin. My overview was okay, but I wasnt thrilled with it. I really wanted to go to the gym after work, but it was also Crazy Tony and Crew Week (has it been a month already?) which meant that I was expected to go out with them that night. Of course I dreaded the thought but ended up having an okay time. Even with the Prez of my company. Hes a very cool, laid back guy. Almost too much so. And Crazy Tony and Crew are so outrageously over the top. Well, its a strange combination and seems to lead to a lot of embarrassment for me lately. Maria (head of CT & Crew Co.) decided to enlist my Prez in the effort to find me a man. Horrors.
Thursday was gym day for sure. Unfortunately, it was also the day that another group of vendors came to town–PLUS our team from Hong Kong. Yes, after a thorough checking and dusting for SARS, they let our Asia people come for a visit. I told Crazy Tony and Maria that I wasnt going to go to dinner with them but they forced me to come out for one drink. It was the politically correct thing to do. Of course, once I got to the restaurant I was starving. So I did end up staying for dinner. And I sat next to Dan, who is a complete cutie pie, not to mention hilarious. The conversation got downright riotous and the waiter kept pouring more and more wine in my glass. Damn him! There went the gym. When the waiter came back with dessert, Dan grabbed stuff off the tray and created a massive phallic something-or-other and then Maria chimed in, ordering one of everything!
Gulp. Not that I was ever forced to eat or anything. But I figured it was rude not to. Hah.
And its now Friday. Im tired and I woke up hungry. Ive been craving salt all day for some reason. And Ive actually made plans tonight with one of the speed dating guys. I dont really feel like going out, but I dont want to say in either. I didnt even realize that its a holiday weekend until the beginning of the week. But theres been no time to make any real weekend plans (such as getting the hell out of town). So I guess its fine that Im meeting this guy. Ill make the most of it. But Im so NOT going to have dinner with him .unless he asks!
