It’s All Fine and Good in Open Diary 2001-2018 (Pre-Prosebox)

I always do this. I don’t feel like going on a long, winding ramble about my last trip to NY, but I do want to document it. And because OD was down for so long (or at least not working for me), and it all starts to get fuzzy after a few days, I have to bulletize. This will most certainly be a quickie.

So to recap:

  • Meetings were fine. I’d like to say short and sweet, but more like long and drawn out. Boss #2 made it a point to attend one very important one with me. He has to add his two cents to every little design. Like put his fingerprints on them or something. That’s fine. At least he knows what I’m doing now (designing product being very secondary to my “real” position). I hope. Anyway, he sits there bullshitting with the owner of this manufacturing company for much too long, eating away at my time. So then I start in on my part and B#2 stays for a little while, critiquing the whole time, and then suddenly gets up and leaves. Tells me that he has another meeting and that he’ll see me later. Fine. Whatever. He’s so all over the place. The only thing that bugs me is that he’s trying to hire a whole new team….and I feel slightly threatened about this. I know I’ll still have a job, but I think it will change.
  • Party was fine. I think. I don’t know. Remember how we were supposed to have a former member of the SNL cast to host this party? Well, this particular guy couldn’t make it for various reasons, so instead, we had a current member of the SNL cast. And he was pretty hilarious in the beginning, but I don’t know. See, he told us that it was his first corporate gig, and I guess our guys told him to keep it fairly PG to R-rated so as to not offend our important accounts. He obviously ran out of “clean” material. Or the drugs kicked in or something. He even went so far as to tell us that there was cocaine, etc. in the dressing room that we’d gotten for him (?). I happen to have talked to the “gopher”….I’m not sure how she procured, but I didn’t ask too many questions. By the end of his bit he was so raunchy that even I was uncomfortable. I could just feel the nervous energy oozing from the big wigs.

    Still, I couldn’t stop laughing!

  • Dinner after the party was good. Il Mulino. Yum. Too bad I was pretty schnockered. I made a slight fool of myself in front of a key account (which happens to be my OLD company!!!!). But it was fairly innocent if not fairly amusing. Of course I was really just along for the ride because Crazy Tony and Maria were there…paying for everything! And as always, they were crazy, crazy, crazy! Walking up to other tables, Maria dragging me along, trying to find attractive men to talk to. Oy. Bad. I’m glad Boss #1 finds this kind of behavior funny. I mean, I have such a blast with Crazy Tony and Maria, but I don’t think that everyone else in the world finds it as hilarious as I do. I think they love me because I go along with so much of their schtick.
  • Bars after dinner were…well, eh. Maria and Crazy Tony and Boss #1 were done for the night, but I was still raring to go. So I met some more people at the Whiskey. Honestly, people I really don’t care for, but I was out…so whatever. I decided to grin and bear. I did get kind of nauseous when I overhead a particular conversation, though. Two of my co-workers just blasting away at another co-worker. I mean, it was horribly ugly. And it made me pretty sure that I’m talked about behind my back too. I swear, this company knows how to party, but the liquor sure makes for extremely loose lips. And this is the most two-faced, gossipy bunch of snits I think I’ve ever encountered. Bitches. All of ‘em. Including the guys. I make it a point not to talk that way about other people here at work. It’s just not smart. I may be a bit of a clown when it comes to my actions, but I will never be the one spreading gossip.

I digress. Oh yes, the bars. The last stop of the night was a little pool hall. I was exhausted at that point, but guess what? Made it to closing! Yes, at 4:30am (after everyone ditched me!) I was walked back to my hotel by a charming and handsome Brit who was fairly recently transplanted to Atlanta. I suppose we got caught up in the fact that he will be here [my town] this week for business. Actually supposed to get in tomorrow. After the nice walk the few short blocks back to my hotel, I gave him my card and a tiny peck on the cheek. I’m pretty sure he was expecting more, so I wonder if he’ll call when he gets in tomorrow. But whatever. It was all good and fun.

  • Rest of the time was fine. Rainy and COLD! But fine. Would have been nicer had a certain Canadian answered the phone when Maria called….but that’s another story for another time.

I need to run now. Gym class awaits. Can’t be late!
