Whoa. Just got this phone call. I didn’t recognize the number but knew it was from New York by the 212 area code. I’d already gotten a call from Kent earlier today. He’s the guy I met in Central Park, remember? The guy I went out with last time I was in town. The guy who’s been calling me “bright eyes” and e-mailing me all these great photos of himself. Anyway, he’d left a message about wishing me a great weekend and that he just wanted to say hello.

So then who was calling? For a brief moment, I thought it might be Canuck telling me that he’d made a huge mistake by blowing me off and that he wanted to express his true love, yada, yada. So I answered. But there was a female voice on the other end of the phone.

She started asking me about meeting Kent and if he had a dog with him when we met and how we met and if I met him out for drinks and on and on. I could tell where this was going, and had no reason to lie, so I simply said yes, I’d met him and yes, had a dog with him and yes, we met for drinks one night when I was in town.

Sure enough, she’s his girlfriend. His live-in girlfriend, no less. Nice. I went on to tell her that it was completely innocent and that my co-worker and his friend Jay had both been with us and that nothing happened (I was wondering whether he was gay or not, remember?). I then told her that I was really sorry and that I had no idea that he had a girlfriend or I would have never gone out with him, let alone talked and exchanged phone numbers with him from the start.

She was actually really cool about it, telling me that it wasn’t my fault…that it was his fault for getting himself into this situation. Especially because he’s dropped clues all over the place and has promised to get counseling with her and just hasn’t done it.

We talked for a long, long time.

We even talked about busting him next time I’m in town (in two weeks). I’d tell him to meet me somewhere and she’d be with me when he showed up. I told her that I’d probably be willing to do it, but asked her to let me think about it. She gave me her e-mail address and then told me that she probably couldn’t wait that long to confront him. She said she was probably going to confront him today.

Hoo boy. What a fun day I’m having. I’m sure there’ll be more to come…
