What I Did and Didn’t Do in Open Diary 2001-2018 (Pre-Prosebox)

Well hello, 2005! When did you get here?

Oh man, it’s almost afternoon, it’s raining and dreary, and I just got home and snuggled into my jammies. I am not leaving the house today. MMMMMmm.. the sweet, dreaminess of it all…

Went to Mike’s (Jen’s boyfriend) party last night. It was weird.

First of all, before I even left for the party, I found out that my neighbors on the floor below me were robbed—while they were at home! Some random burglar somehow got into the building and I guess just started checking door to door to see who’d left their door unlocked. This poor, unsuspecting couple got hit. The guy just grabbed whatever he could find (namely, the girl’s purse) and ran. They saw him leaving their place. I felt so badly for them, but know that I should always have my door locked. No matter what. I tried to help them with whatever I could. I waited by the front door for the cops to come, but they were so fucking slow getting there that my neighbors just told me to go ahead and that they’d be fine. I also know now not to rely on the cops to show in an emergency. The robber was still in the building when my neighbors called 911, and we even saw the dude and his accomplice driving away several minutes after the 911 call. They could have caught him if they’d been quick. I saw two police cars pull up to the building literally 15 minutes after I’d talked to my neighbor…which would have been a good 20 after the 911 call. Comforting.

Anyway. The party. It was a good sized, yet fairly ordinary house party. I did get pretty loopy on champagne (drank it all night), and I definitely couldn’t drive myself home. Not even at 6am.

Brian, the stolen date was there. I’m guessing that he was thinking that he was going to get some more stolen lovin’ last night. Sorry, but he thought wrong, even though we slept in the same bed for a few hours (I told him that I thought I was going to get sick).

Though no New Year’s Nook (thankfully), I did get lots of midnight kisses, and that was all I needed. I guess. Whatever.

I don’t know. I wish I had more craziness to report. Let’s see. There was a karaoke machine, so that’s something. And then Brian peed on the floor. Yeah, that was something else. But I don’t really want to get into that. It was a party. A typical New Year’s Eve party with the typical drunkenness and the typical not being able to drive yourself home, which makes you so horribly antsy because you have to stay until you sober up. Yawn.

So I pretty much just got home. Well, I did make yummy café au lait and ate some cereal, but then I hopped on the good ole’ box here.

And I pulled out my list from last year. Let’s see how I did, shall we?

Top Ten Things to Accomplish in 2004:

10. Update my boring hairstyle – Updated slightly with new layers. I like it…when it cooperates.

9. Clean out closets/get rid of excess – Was forced to do this when I moved to the loft—sooooo many bags full of clothes! But there’s still some excess to get rid of here (as I sit in my office/2nd bedroom looking at 5 boxes that have only been half unpacked from the move in August).

8. Nurture friendships – Made new friends, but seem to have lost some of the old. Have decided that nurturing is not one of my strong points.

7. Have more sex – What a miserable failure. Well, that’s not all true. I think this year I should add something about “quality”.

6. Lose that last 10 pounds – Um….I not only did I not lose that last 10 pounds, I gained an additional 5!!! Fuck!

5. Start new, meaningful hobby – I have started knitting. I’ve made about eight scarves that need fringe. I would like to do some other things too, a hat for starters. Then maybe…a sweater!? I know, I know. I set my aspirations high.

4. Go someplace I’ve never been before – I went to Dusseldorf for work back in August. Oh! And my tongue was in Jeff’s belly button in London…never been there before. Does that count?

3. Get promotion at work – They don’t just dole those things out…especially when there’s not very many places/ways I can get promoted. I did get some relief in my work situation with the addition of another person on one of my teams. That helped a lot. And my annual raise was actually very nice.

2. Buy some property (house, condo?) – So the one place fell through, but another one opened up, and I’m now actively in the process!

1. Fall in love, or at least something that feels like it – Nothing even close. Q was in my sights for a little while, but that was a disaster. And LDL still haunts me. I feel like I’m still in love with him. Perhaps that’s keeping me from moving on.

…hmmm. All in all, I’d say not so good. I think I’m going to go off and think about this for a while. Or maybe put in a movie or something. Or more coffee. I’ll be back.
