Rate-a-Last-Fling

So my friend Julie (old nabe from the first place I lived here in this Great Midwestern town) has been trying to set me up on a blind date for months and months. She was raving about a guy she just knew was perfect for me. He and I had many phone conversations, but we missed each other because of travels, holidays, illnesses, etc…

Last week we both had some free time, but I didn’t think he’d be interested in meeting me at this point because I’m moving away. After lots of emails back and forth, I was surprised to find out that he still wanted to meet.

Name: Craig

Age: 33

Relationship Status: Never married, but according to Julie, is very, very ready.

Occupation: Sales Exec.

Length of date: 7ish hours

We met: At the bar of a really gorgeous restaurant in my old hood.

I wore: I don’t even remember (so much has happened since last week)…jeans, green sweater, nothing special because I didn’t think too much about it.

He wore: Um…OH! Chocolate brown jacket, jeans, striped shirt, nice shoes.

We did: Drank and talked and talked and talked, ate and talked and drank. He didn’t want me to drive home, so he drove me to my soon-to-be-old hood, and I forced him to have a nightcap at the bar on my block.

Convo: A lot of it was about my impending move and my career, but then I wanted to know a lot about him. He’s very, very family-oriented and responsible. I would say one of the most responsible guys I’ve met in a long, long time. But in a sweet, light-hearted way. Would make a great dad. If I were into that kind of thing. As the night wore on (I told him I wanted to get home early…yeah, right), he told me that he was bummed that I was moving and that he really liked me and that he wanted to be my very, very short-time boyfriend (cute, huh?). My response (yes, I was quite tipsy at this point)? Sure!! Let’s be boyfriend/girlfriend so that we can have a nasty fight and then have brilliant make-up sex…and then we can cry about me moving away, and then we can break up.

Part of personality I liked: He’s creative and sensitive, yet still all guy. Pretty funny, too.

Part of personality I disliked: I think if I weren’t moving away I’d be irritated by his persistence.

Part of appearance I liked: The guy is very, very handsome. That was guaranteed by Julie, and she does not disappoint. Tall and dark and strong-jawed.

Part of appearance I disliked: Not a damn thing. Really.

Highest Point: Strangely enough, the boyfriend/girlfriend joke. It was funny and sweet, and I was completely flattered and amused at the same time.

Lowest Point: My hangover the next morning.

Chances I’ll see him again: 100%. He’s taking me out on our “last date” tonight. He wants to take me places I never had a chance to see during the three years I was here. Then we’ll break up. I’m so excited!!!

Christmas, house-hunting, and another date entry to follow (oh man, I cheated!!)…SO MUCH TO WRITE!!!
